Job summary:
The Head of Research and Learning leads the library's instruction, faculty outreach, and research services. This librarian provides a strong vision for the library's information literacy program, including planning, implementation, and assessment. Along with other members of the library staff, the Head of Research and Learning shares responsibility for collection development and maintenance, research desk coverage, and library programming.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Lead Research and Learning services, which includes research support, information literacy instruction, and faculty outreach
  • Provide leadership and direction for all information literacy instruction by developing information literacy standards for both the undergraduate and graduate curriculum
  • Collaborate with and mentor other library staff as they plan, promote and assess information literacy initiatives
  • Design instruction to meet learning needs of Lasell students, addressing prior knowledge and experience, motivation to learn, cognitive abilities, and learning situations
  • Create digital teaching objects, like research guides, tutorials, and Canvas course modules
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments on embedding library resources and instruction into courses and academic programs
  • Initiate efforts to increase use of library services by collaborating with academic support services, student groups, and other campus partners
  • Measure the impact of library instruction programs on library services, academic departments, and student learning
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and best practices for effective operation and maintenance of research services
  • Participate in collection development for both print and digital resources for a variety of academic departments
  • Participate in collection maintenance of print materials for a variety of academic departments
  • Evaluate usage of digital resources and communicate usage trends to faculty and academic departments
  • Provide in-person and virtual research help during regular shifts at the Research Desk
  • Create library programming for students, faculty, staff, and Lasell Village residents
  • Represent Brennan Library at consortia meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Library Director
Qualifications
Required:
  • MLS or comparable graduate degree or 5 years of relevant experience
  • At least three years of professional academic library experience, including instruction and research
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in planning, implementing, and assessing library initiatives
  • Experience with collection development and maintenance
  • Experience working with faculty
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills

Preferred:
  • Second Master's Degree
  • Working knowledge of the ACRL Information Literacy Framework for Higher Education and/or the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. with information literacy standards and outcomes as they reflect current library teaching practice
  • Teaching experience at the college level
  • Experience with Springhare apps, especially LibGuides
  • Experience with online library instruction
