Description
Reporting to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), the Director will work to strategically address diversity and inclusion efforts in partnership with faculty and staff that advance the College's mission and vision; oversees all programming for the Days-Massolo Center (DMC), whose mission includes offering broad, innovative and relevant student-centered educational programs; and is primarily responsible for departmental management, development, and assessment of programs focusing on identity development and understanding of issues on diversity, inclusiveness, and social justice.

Supervision:
The Director reports to the inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and works with members of the community to advance strategic goals. The Director supervises student employees.

Programming:
  • Collaborate with members of the campus community to develop and implement innovative programming that educates students about multiculturalism, diversity, social justice, and intersections of identity through community building
  • Facilitate dialogue across student groups focused on social complexity, ethnic and racial difference, social class, religious identity, gender, LGBTQ issues, and the intersection of these identities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to promote a diverse and open learning environment in and out of the classroom to develop student-centered programming including cultural events, talks, film series, panels, and other educational programs
  • Advise cultural organizations utilizing a cluster-advising model in collaboration with Student Activities
  • Partner with the Division of Student Life on strategic initiatives for the developmental support and growth of students
  • Provide leadership and education in diversity awareness and inclusive practice
  • Engages widely with the college community around issues of diversity, inclusion, and intersections of identity
  • Serves as a resource for students, student organizations, faculty and staff about related matters.

    Management and Administration:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Days-Massolo Center (DMC);
  • Lead long-range planning, strategic direction, service, and efficient facility utilization for departmental programs and services;
  • Develop and manage assigned budgets, approve expenses, and provide fiscal oversight of the DMC;
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of DEI on initiatives and strategic goals;
  • Serve on various campus-wide committees as needed;
  • Lead, plan and attend trainings, retreats, and planning sessions as needed;
  • Maintain a high profile at student programs and events;
  • Attend evening and weekend events as necessary;
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications
    Must have demonstrated experience working with various constituencies to promote diversity initiatives with a deep understanding of issues related to culture, race, ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, and religious and spiritual backgrounds as well as their intersectionality; and a commitment and ability to center and engage students in the learning process through intentional planning and a high level of personal contact.

  • A master's degree required, doctorate preferred, and a minimum seven (7) years at college/university setting in student affairs or in student affairs or related field
  • Experience advising college students, individually and as members of student organizations, with an emphasis on identity development and leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse communities in an academic setting
  • Prior work experience in diversity education within a higher educating setting preferred
  • Prior experience supervising and managing budgets is preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
