Position Summary

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to work in a research environment that investigates the developmental origins of health and disease. The Research Technician will function independently and as part of a larger research team in projects aimed at understanding the underlying mechanisms through which early life nutrient exposure influence disease risk in adverse pregnancy conditions such as maternal obesity, gestational diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

The impact of the research will be to better understand the metabolic and molecular pathways involved in fetal programming, which may ultimately lead to better diagnosis and treatment of maternal pregnancy conditions.

Job Duties Include:
  • designing, organizing and conducting animal experimentation
  • conducting substrate and hormone assays
  • data analyses, summarizing findings, and assisting in manuscript drafting and publishing for peer-reviewed journals
  • general responsibility for day-to-day scientific operations of the laboratory
  • provide guidance to junior technicians, students, and researchers

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in basic or health sciences (biochemistry, nutrition or related field
  • 3 years experience in a research laboratory (as part of graduate training or otherwise)

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS in basic or health sciences (biochemistry, nutrition or related field)
  • Have experience and be comfortable working with animal (rodent) models including daily handling, breeding, and assisting in non-survival surgeries;
  • Have experience in standard substrate and hormone analyses procedures, RNA expression analyses (real-time PCR ), and protein abundance using immunoblotting techniques;
  • Have proficient computer skills and familiar with basic software (i.e. word, excel, PowerPoint).
  • Have strong oral and written skills;
  • Have good organizational skills;
  • Have a team mindset;
  • Have the ability to work through problems.
