The Jiangmen Laboratory of Carbon Science and Technology (JCL) invites applications for a cluster of postdoc positions in CCUS, energy storage, ecosystem carbon accounting and fixation, carbon data analytics and zero-emission system design, climate change policy and finance. The Laboratory is jointly founded by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Jiangmen Municipal Government. It orients research and development to national strategic targets of decarbonization, climate change and mitigation. The HKUST was established in 1991 and ranked 34 th in the 2022 QS World University Ranking. With two campuses in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, the HKUST promotes cross-disciplinary research, education and innovation in areas of strategic significance.

 

The HKUST-JCL Postdoctoral Fellowship aims to attract the most talented young scientists to tackle the grand challenges facing humanity by pursuing cutting-edge research in partnership with leading scientists and located in a most vibrant region. The awardees will receive globally competitive support with an annual stipend up to US$100K including a basic salary and living allowances with medical insurance and retirement plan. More benefits of equivalent amount may be available to eligible candidates meeting additional requirements. The exact amount of the fellowship is determined based on individual qualifications and subject to related policies. Excellent living and working environment with experimental and computation facilities are provided to all fellows. Each awardee will receive up to US$50K start-up funding.

 

The inaugural program supports 20 awardees for a period of 2 years in terms of fulltime appointment. Awardees are expected to be based at the HKUST-JCL. The candidates must hold a doctoral degree in no more than 3 years with demonstrated achievement in research in climate and carbon science, technology, policy, and finance, and related fields. The positions are renewable for up to 4 years. The working languages are English and Chinese.
