Position Summary


The College of Business invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, Program Manager position. Appointment into the Program Manager role will be split between a (0.44 FTE) professional faculty and an (0.56 FTE) fixed-term instructor position.

The position reports directly to the Assistant Director for Student Engagement in the College of Business. The purpose of this position is to provide instruction within the College’s first year BA160 series courses and to support the overall management and supervision of the wide variety of Student Engagement Programs. This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction for K-12 programming for prospective students in the College of business and students engaged in the First Year Experience (FYE) in the College of Business. The incumbent will hold two appointments, a 0.56 FTE fixed-term position as Instructor and a 0.44 FTE professional faculty position, reflecting job duties in both the academic and administrative arenas.

This position is responsible for the instruction, curriculum development, classroom management, and overseeing academic projects as part of the first year curriculum, as well as the coordination of tasks that provide wrap around services for College of Business students including:
K-12 programming and partnerships, Innovation Nation programming, course curriculum, maintaining best practices for retention efforts within the College of Business, as well as other assigned programs within Innovation Nation and Student Engagement.

This position will participate in strategic planning efforts that support the mission, vision, and goals for the College of Business as it pertains to the first year program, K-12 programming, and related pre-college initiatives. 


Position Duties

50% – Classroom Management & Programming:
  • Supports and teaches the BA160 series (small lecture courses, and large lecture recitation courses).
  • Trains, supervises/mentors, and evaluates student teaching assistants.
  • Works with Student Engagement’s staff, student workers and faculty to identify and implement enhanced events tied to the First Year Series to promote the success of students in collaboration with faculty, alumni and industry representatives.
  • Provides support for BA160 teaching team, including but not limited to: creating course content and curriculum, designing student and team assignments and exams, grading, and facilitating classroom functions, etc.
  • Supports the onboarding of first year students in Innovation Nation through orientation and welcome week programming.
  • Manages Innovation Nation’s student-run microbusiness projects.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Student Engagement in planning programs that contribute to the program’s mission
  • Meets 1:1 with students to provide holistic support.
  • Interacts with a variety of internal and external customers (e.g., staff, student assistants, business owners, students and their families, companies, outside speakers, faculty, classified and administrative personnel in the college and throughout the university, vendors, and program sponsors) by phone, in person, electronically (website/email), etc.
40% – K-12 Programming:
  • Provides leadership and strategy for K-12 programming in conjunction with College of Business needs.
  • Collaborates and creates partnerships with community members and organizations to build strategy around College of Business K-12 programs and summer camp programs.
  • Assists in leading the on-site K-12 programs and events including but not limited to summer camps, quarterly programs, and additional requested events; including meetings, partner brainstorms, scheduling staff, planning activities, being “on-call” for programs, communicating with student engagement team staff to ensure daily tasks are accomplished
  • Provides preliminary budgets for approval to the Executive Director for Student Engagement and maintain fiscal records for K-12 program expenditures.
  • Collaborates on the hiring and training of student and staff needed.
  • Oversees the follow-through of any correspondence necessary related to K-12 functions and activities, i.e. staff contracts, permits, etc.
  • Works closely with Pre-College programs to ensure all guidelines, policies and procedures are met.
  • Collaborates with partners and College of Business marketing and communications team to support marketing efforts.
  • Collaborates and supports instructors in organizing, implementing, decision-making and trouble-shooting K-12 curriculum.
  • Schedules and supervises program staffing and recommends any necessary changes annually.
  • Evaluates program goals and results, recommending changes annually.
  • Ensures safe practices and healthy K-12 program environments.
  • Coordinates and organizes on and off-campus and virtual events.
  • Collects and analyzes data and recommends programming and process improvements accordingly.
  • Keeps records and documents processes.
10% – Service/Special Projects:
  • Serves on college and/or university committees, attend professional conferences or other trainings, and attend college and/or university events as required.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Student Engagement in planning programs that contribute to the program’s mission.
  • Plans, assigns, and reviews work regarding program logistics, and provides coordination and expertise to the program. Coordinates student work schedules and trains, supervises/mentors, and evaluates student assistants. Disciplines or effectively recommends discipline.
  • Writes letters of recommendation, as requested.


Minimum/Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business, Education, College Student Services and Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience with supporting students in their personal, professional and academic pursuits in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in K-12 and pre-college programming in higher education.
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • Demonstrated record of effective teaching at an accredited university.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • High computer proficiency; required qualifications include: strong MS office experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and working knowledge of Outlook and Windows/Mac.
  • Ability to maintain professional decorum, as well as know or can demonstrate ability to learn and work within OSU system.
  • This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions.
  • This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.


Preferred (Special) Qualifications

  • Experience in utilizing best practices in retaining first year students in a higher education setting.
  • Previous experience in supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with management and supervision from an accredited university.
  • Knowledge of best practices engaging K-12 students and families.
  • An ability and willingness to learn new programs and applications quickly.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities, prioritize appropriately, pay careful attention to details, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity.


Working Conditions / Work Schedule

  • The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a flexible work schedule.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required.
