The Department of Music at Stanford University invites applicants for the position of Lecturer in Piano, beginning on 1 September 2022.  This is a half-time Lecturer position with 50% benefits.

The ideal candidate for this position is a dynamic, creative colleague who possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills, has a proven record of teaching individual piano lessons to students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines, has experience coaching chamber music ensembles, has a demonstrated record of performance success, enjoys working collaboratively in a highly rigorous liberal arts environment, and will actively contribute to a campus community that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach intermediate to advanced level piano lessons to music majors, minors, and non-majors
  • Coach chamber music ensembles consisting of students representing a wide spectrum of experience and ability
  • Participate in assessment of quarterly studio juries
  • Participate in evaluating supplemental materials and auditions for yearly admissions applicants
  • Maintain an active presence on campus, attending on-campus performances, and participating in performance activities such as concerts, faculty recitals and other events
  • Participate as a member of the Performance Committee and attend faculty and committee meetings
  • Work collaboratively with faculty colleagues and contribute to the long-range goals of the keyboard program

Qualifications/Required Skills

  • Master's degree in piano performance and/or pedagogy, or professional experience as teacher and/or performer equivalent to the terminal degree
  • Documented experience and success teaching piano in an accredited higher education institution or in a professional setting
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to teaching a wide range of students from all academic disciplines and who encompass varied degrees of experience and ability
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in approach to teaching/learning and in professional activities
  • Documented success teaching students of diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High degree of organization
  • Professional distinction and documented success as a pianist
