Job Description

Job Summary:

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University’s (Virginia Tech’s) Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer is seeking a talented Program Director with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to lead its IT Transformation Program Office (ITTPO). The IT transformation program aims to increase alignment of core IT organizations, processes, and services; build a stronger culture of collaboration; foster innovation and efficiency across the university; enable comprehensive shared governance; reduce cybersecurity risk; and improve support for IT professionals to assist in the recruitment, retention, and career progression of our valued employees.

The Program Director will be responsible for managing and coordinating the successful execution of multiple projects and ensuring overall progress towards university and IT transformation program goals. This includes development of program assessment protocols for evaluation and improvement; and advising on budget and resource needs to ensure effective implementation that adhere to university standards of satisfaction, quality, and performance. The Program Director will have an active role in collaborating on relevant change management initiatives resulting from the implementation of IT transformation program.

The Program Director will also provide leadership and oversight to the ITTPO and its staff in the execution of daily operational aspects of the program. The Program Director will also provide regular updates on program status to the VT Board of Visitors and to university leadership.

Job Responsibilities:

• Continually evaluate the human capital and financial resource needs of the ITTPO to ensure alignment with the effective and efficient delivery of the IT transformation program.
• Develop, implement, and communicate the standards and processes for use by the ITTPO to assist with project planning, issue tracking and escalation, risk management, project and program resourcing, and progress reporting to university stakeholders.
• Collaboratively develop metrics to measure outcomes, success, and progress of the overall IT transformation program, and individual projects thereof.
• Oversee the IT transformation program branding and communications plans.
• Regularly liaise with program executive sponsors, steering committees, assigned project managers, and functional teams to scope, budget, and develop work plans for new projects within the IT transformation program.
• Coordinate development of project and program budgets; communicate resource needs; and work with project managers and stakeholders to assign, assess, and re-allocate resources where appropriate to achieve desired project outcomes.
• Assume accountability for delivering program office outcomes against established business goals/objectives.
• Provide regular and timely updates to the program executive sponsors, steering committees, and other key stakeholders on program status, progress against the transformation roadmap, identified program needs, and escalated issues or risks needing resolution.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, such as business administration, management, information technology, or computer science, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Demonstrated experience researching and preparing technically complex reports, analysis, proposals and recommendations on a variety of strategic topics for senior or executive management.
• Excellent communication, organization, management, public speaking, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated high proficiency with current office software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications.
• Demonstrated ability to work professionally and effectively both as a productive leader or member of teams or committees.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities concurrently, adhere to project timelines, and exercise sound judgement and confidentiality when working with sensitive issues.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in relevant field such as business administration, public administration, information technology, or computer science, etc.
• Currently licensed Project Management Professional, or similar professional project management credential.
• Advanced understanding of public higher education organizational structures.
• Broad knowledge of the scope and delivery of IT services in large, distributed organizations.
• Experience performing needs analyses with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Experience and proficiency utilizing project management software and/or IT service management tools
