Early Career Postdoctoral Fellow in Classics

The Department of Classics at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for two two-year postdoctoral positions beginning August 2022 at a salary of $60,000 p.a., research funds of $12,000 p.a., and a 1/1 teaching schedule. Qualified candidates should have completed the PhD at the time of the appointment.

The fellowships are part of the university-wide Early Career Cohort program, which seeks to identify promising candidates from atypical backgrounds and to invest in their career development. The fellows will contribute to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by expanding the department’s range of content and/or methodology through their research and teaching, in particular by engaging the experience of under-represented groups. Specialization is open, including but not restricted to: classical reception among under-represented groups, the study of marginalized groups in the ancient world, or methods that promote social justice within the field, such as inclusive archiving and data preservation. Evidence of substantial prior efforts to improve DEI, for example through collaboration with relevant SCS affiliate organizations, will enhance a candidate’s application. Candidates will be evaluated in light of their career stage, and evidence of potential will be considered alongside existing scholarly accomplishments.

We expect the successful candidates to have a substantial voice in the ongoing transformation of the Department and in shaping the future of the field.
