Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF), College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is recruiting for an Executive Associate Dean (EAD). This is a Clinical or Tenure Track position. As a vital executive leadership position for CVM, the EAD reports to and advises the Dean, has responsibility for oversight of an array of college activities, as delegated by the Dean, and is a member of the Dean’s Council. Those strategic and operational activities for which the EAD has primary or shared responsibility include:
  • Implementation of Strategic Initiatives – Provides oversight of activities and accomplishments related to CVM strategic priorities, establishing both timelines and accountability.
  • Human Resource Management – Aids with college personnel activities.
  • Leadership Development – Creates a culture of leadership development to include faculty, staff, and students. Provides oversight of succession planning for CVM leadership, faculty, and staff.
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Works together with the Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and promotes a multicultural, inclusive learning and work environment in the CVM that achieves representation in faculty, staff, and students reflecting the multiple dimensions of Florida’s rich social and economic diversity.
  • Financial Management – Provides counsel on expenditure of CVM funds.
  • Facilities and Space – Supervises space, room assignments, furnishing and equipping space, and related issues for the CVM; works together with the Executive Director regarding facility planning and renovations, with the Associate Dean for Research regarding research-related space, the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs regarding classroom space and teaching facilities, and the Associate Deans for Clinical Services regarding clinical space and facilities.
  • Veterinary Hospitals – Serves as a member of the Hospital Board, the Florida Veterinary Medical Faculty Association (FVMFA) Board, and the FVMFA Audit Committee.
  • Institutional Evaluation and Reporting – Provides oversight of institutional reporting and external reviews as needed, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
  • Office of Advancement - Aids with development opportunities.
  • Alumni Affairs & External Stakeholders – Assists with and cultivating alumni relationships and relationships with industry partners.
In addition to these responsibilities, the EAD will serve as liaison and coordinator between the Dean, Chairpersons, and Directors for day-to-day activities and special projects, aid chairs, deans, and faculty in dealing with administrative issues within the College and University, and provide administrative directives for daily operations.

To assure a thorough understanding of this specific leadership opportunity, applicants should have at least 10 years professional experience (FTE basis) in an academic setting, preferably within academic veterinary medicine, and substantial executive leadership experience. In addition, applicants should have a track record of creating successful programs in leadership development, multiculturalism, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will also have an academic appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor (Clinical or Tenure Track as appropriate). The candidates will be encouraged to develop his/her own individual academic program to complement the EAD activities. Options for this academic program will be defined in negotiation with the Dean, and might include teaching, research, and/or clinical service as determined by the candidate’s background and interests.

Expected Salary:

Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with experience of the successful candidate.

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a DVM (or equivalent) and/or PhD, with special consideration given to candidates with a DVM (or equivalent) degree.
