VICE PRESIDENT FOR DEVELOPMENT

Scope of Job:
Oversee and implement a strategic plan to cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts from all sources and ensure that the university executes a robust program in alignment with the University strategic plan. Provide senior leadership in developing and ensuring strategies are in place for proactive and reactive research in order to identify and qualify prospective donors and potential volunteer leaders, including prospect management functions.

Description of Duties:
  • Establishes the strategic plan for the assigned areas to ensure goals are in place for proactive and reactive research to identify and quality prospective donors and potential volunteer leaders, including prospect management functions.
  • Provides expert oversight to the assigned leadership team and collaborates closely with major and principal gifts, alumni relations, special events, and establishes protocol in developing and implementing strategies to achieve assigned divisional goals.
  • Provides leadership and strategic planning for assigned areas within Institutional Advancement, which includes prospect research, database management, records and reports, gift processing, stewardship and donor relations and endowment compliance.
  • Leads and creates strategic plans and implements these plans in order to reach the ambitious fundraising goals.
  • Recruits, develops, and retains talented team focused on increasing constituent involvement and fundraising outcomes.
  • Promote strategic professional development through training and effectively partner with key university administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Serves as an advisor to the EVP for Institutional Advancement and assigned direct reports.
  • Responsible for providing leadership to the university’s development office and is responsible provide expert advice for the management of all development activities.
  • Develops mid and long-range strategic plans for fundraising efforts.
  • Works with academic leadership, particularly Deans, to identify short and long-term priorities for fundraising.
  • Participates in the planning, strategic direction, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities related to the university’s development goals.
  • Oversees the execution of annual giving objectives and reports on progress of goals.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to coordinate development activities.
  • Designs processes to capture and maintain through information on constituencies and maximizes use of database.
  • Ensures strategies are in place for proactive and reactive research to identify and qualify prospective donors and potential volunteer leaders; including prospect management functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
Eight (8) years of progressive responsible work experience in development. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of fundraising and fundraising vehicles. Experience leading a development team.

Preferred Experience:

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment.

Other:
Excellent negotiating skills; demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and produce resolution in complex circumstances. Well-developed capabilities in conceptualization, problem solving, attention to detail and task completion. Ability to supervise and train others. Exceptional communications skills, written and verbal communication aptitude. High degree of organization and initiative.
