Position Description

The College of Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time Associate Dean of Admissions with a start date of summer 2022.  The College of Medicine, located in Bryan/College Station, Texas, is the largest of five colleges at the Texas A&M Health Science Center and includes campuses distributed throughout the state of Texas. Texas A&M College of Medicine utilizes a holistic review process to select well-rounded individuals, all while working to adhere to the university's core values: Excellence, Integrity, Leadership, Loyalty, Respect and Selfless Service.

The Associate Dean of Admissions is responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive recruitment and admissions plan, from prospective students and pathway programs through matriculation. The Associate Dean of Admissions reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions within the College of Medicine. Applicants will be considered for a full-time tenured or academic professional track (clinical or instructional) position.  Applicants for the academic professional track position will be considered for the ranks of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor depending on qualifications.  Applicants for the tenured position will be considered for the rank of Professor.  The departmental home for the faculty appointment will be determined as appropriate given the candidate’s education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and implement a comprehensive recruitment and admissions plan which includes
    • Implementing programs to assure that the diversity goals for the student body are met
    • Participating in admissions counseling and recruitment activities
    • Traveling to colleges and universities for local and national recruitment events
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for all medical school MD program applicant inquiries
  • Manage and refine the holistic process of evaluating, interviewing, and selecting qualified applicants
  • Liaise and coordinate with the Engineering Medicine (EnMED), MD/PhD, and MD/Plus Programs’ recruiting and admissions activities
  • Oversee the administration of notifications regarding interviews, acceptances, scholarship awards, and denials
  • Oversee the administration of the Early Assurance Pathway Programs
  • Analyze application and admissions trend data to plan, make recommendations, and implement best practices and to evaluate processes
  • Supervise the development, preparation and dissemination of reports and information, including demographic and statistical data regarding applicants and matriculates
  • Provide ongoing education and programmatic support to admissions committee members and interviewers regarding school policies, accreditation standards, and institutional priorities
  • Serve as ex-officio to the Admissions and Scholarship Committees
  • Ensure compliance with all LCME standards regarding admissions and enrollment
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of the staff of the Office of Admissions
  • Manage, assess, balance, and forecast the office’s operational budget
  • Pursue opportunities to present and publish in scholarly venues
  • Teach in appropriate TAMU-COM courses
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • MD, DO, PhD, or EdD
  • Proven track record of managing and implementing a successful medical school admissions program
  • Familiarity and experience with accreditation and accountability standards
  • Demonstrated experience with an Admissions software system
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively
  • Administrative experience in leading and supervising a team
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Candidates applying for full professor must also have a portfolio of research, service and teaching and have obtained tenure at a previous institution.
