Learning Specialist- Transitional Scholars Program Coordinator

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. The Transitional Scholars Program Coordinator will support all facets of the Transitional Scholars Program and facilitate inclusion of students with disabilities from area high schools to MassBay Community College.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Consult with parents, students, school district staff, state agencies, and other inclusion specialists to develop and assess goals for students in the Transitional Scholars Program;
  • Educate students and parents about available college services including accommodations, transportation, recreation and extracurricular activities;
  • Coordinate college learning and Accessibility services including matching student with faculty, peer mentors and tutors;
  • Purchase all college textbooks and materials for students to be successful with their coursework;
  • Communicate regularly with Director of Accessibility Resources Center on program progress and all issues relating to student progress;
  • Work closely with the Accessibility Resources Center staff in determining and providing accommodations for students with disabilities;
  • Conduct ongoing team meetings for individual students to discuss progress and plan for future semester, etc.;
  • Maintain database/record of students and their related course selections, services and project activities;
  • Track expenditures for program budget;
  • Facilitate contracts between participating school districts and the College;
  • Problem solve any issues as they arise;
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with departmental activities;
  • Determine suitable referrals to other college resources based on student need;
  • Advise students as assigned;
  • Perform related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology or closely related field; with five (5) years experience and/or training that includes teaching students with learning disabilities and cognitive limitations, administering/interpreting educational and psychological tests, curriculum development, and program administration; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Prior experience working with high school and college age student population with disabilities;Knowledge of high school to college transition as well as transition services for students with disabilities;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Evidence of commitment in seeking ways to improve student success for students with disabilities;
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and proven commitment to higher academic standards;
  • Demonstrated history of integrity;
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $59,939 – $71,325, in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.

Position Type: MCCC Professional, Grade 6
