Position: Visiting Assistant Professor of Health Sciences
The Department of Health Sciences at Stetson University invites applications for two full-time visiting assistant professor positions beginning August 2022. The first is a renewable position, and the second is a one-year position. Primary teaching responsibilities for both positions include undergraduate courses in health science courses, including Health and Wellness and Anatomy and Physiology. The positions are full-time, 9-month appointments (August-May).
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a related field with
demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates. Candidates
should have a strong commitment to innovative pedagogy and
mentoring undergraduates. Equity and diversity are essential to
academic excellence. We are particularly interested in candidates
with an interest in or record of scholarship in engaging students
from diverse backgrounds.
The Department:
The successful applicant’s appointment will be in the Department of
Health Sciences. Currently, there are six full-time faculty
members, whose expertise spans from virology and nutrition to
cardiovascular, aging, and microbiome physiology. We are deeply
committed to effective teaching and to working with students in a
mentoring capacity.
Responsibilities:
The teaching load is equivalent to four course units per semester.
Primary teaching responsibilities may include an introductory-level
Health and Wellness course Anatomy and Physiology, and/or other
courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Specialized
courses may include new or existing upper-division health sciences
courses and/or General Education courses. For more information on

University service may include academic advising of Health Sciences
students.
The College of Arts and Sciences
(CAS):
Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences (http://www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/)
is the largest and most diverse of the University’s colleges and
schools; it includes the humanities, social sciences, natural
sciences, education, and creative arts. With nineteen academic
departments and eight interdisciplinary programs, the College is
the liberal arts core of the University. A great strength of the
College is its faculty of approximately 140 full-time
teacher-scholars. The College offers 31 undergraduate majors and 34
undergraduate minors; six graduate degrees are offered in
Education, Counselor Education, and Creative Writing. Every
CAS undergraduate major requires a senior capstone project,
providing students the opportunity to design and carry out quality,
faculty-mentored research. Our academic programs are shaped by the
values of social justice and civic responsibility. All of our
courses and programs of study promote engaged learning, whereby
students create connections between the classroom or lab and the
local, regional, and global community. A new health and science
building, currently in the building phase, will be completed within
the next year. The academic programs of the College of Arts and
Sciences prepare students to live significant lives, to interact
with and positively affect the world around them.
The University:

DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 32,000 located 20
miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The
area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational
activities.
Salary: Salary is competitive.
