VCU has an exciting opportunity for a Special Events Supervisor in VCU's Facilities Management for their Parking and Transportation unit.

The Special Events Supervisor is responsible for supervising operational and event staff of the department whose functions include special events, enforcement and safety officers. The Special Events Supervisor ensures compliance with University, State, and Federal policies and that all operations services are delivered efficiently, reliably, and with service excellence to the VCU and VCU Health communities; ensures all objectives of event management are achieved; and documents and analyzes event details for future planning.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement procedures, standards, and guidelines for each event to ensure that all policies and procedures are followed
  • Ensure staff is on-site and ready to work, has their assignments and everything needed to work the event
  • Ensure parking coupons and ticket start and end numbers are logged
  • Ensure staff are properly trained and have the correct equipment
  • Verifies that tickets are set up for events as needed
  • Verify revenue funds and deposits are collected for custodian of funds
  • Performs inspections prior to events and reports conditions to senior leadership
  • Ensures event staff actively observe pedestrian and vehicular traffic for safety hazards during events
  • Ensures all traffic control devices such as barricades, traffic cones, and tape are placed prior to and retrieved at the end of an event
  • During downtime, may assist Enforcement Operations by supervising Enforcement and Safety Ambassadors
Minimum Hiring Standards
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Cash handling and customer service experience required
  • Ability to handle multiple situations simultaneously, set priorities, and professionally handle stressful situations on a daily basis
  • Ability to diplomatically liaise with police, staff, faculty, and the public
  • Ability to successfully supervise staff and ensure completion of requirements
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Skills in basic accounting procedures preferred
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to Special Events, including proper cash handling practices and documentation preferred
  • Ability to reconcile and audit daily cash receipts preferred
Required Licensure/Certification
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
