Job Description:
This Research Technician position is in the Department of Physiology and Aging at the McKnight Brain Institute. The laboratory’s research includes the central and peripheral mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The position will involve supporting experiments utilizing genetic mouse models and virally-mediated gene transfer as well as advanced neuroanatomical techniques.
Job duties include:
- Animal husbandry and performing laboratory techniques involved in generating anatomical data.
- Routinely used procedures include cryostat/microtome sectioning of brain tissue, immunohistochemistry, mRNA in situ hybridization, fluorescence microscopy, mRNA isolation, RT-PCR, and antibody-based assays.
- Caring for manipulated mice in the Animal Care Services facilities.
- Assisting with surgical procedures and post-surgical monitoring of mice
- Assisting with experimental procedures, such as behavioral assays.
- Other duties as assigned.
$15.00 - $20.00; commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or a high school diploma and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of molecular biology and genetics is preferred.
- Must be able to assume responsibility, work independently, follow experimental protocols, and work cooperatively with animal facility staff and laboratory members
- Evidence of clear communication and writing skills is important
- Must have excellent time management skills
- Maintain a well-organized and clean workspace.
- Maintain detailed written and electronic records of experiments and data.
- Effectively and consistently communicate with Principle Investigators (PIs)
- Maintain work conditions that satisfy EHS, IACUC, and AALAS standards.
- Maintain the lab’s high standards of ethics and scientific integrity
- Other duties as assigned.
