The Opportunity:

The STEM Translational Communication Center is seeking an energetic, self-sufficient and creative applicant to serve as a research coordinator II for a clinical trial. The applicant will work closely with project teams, faculty, trainees, health care providers, students, and community members who develop initiatives and provide health communication related to reduction of cancer burden among underrepresented populations.

A strong work ethic, ability to work as a team and excellent hands-on skills are required.

This is an experienced, professional level position, ideal for candidates with established careers in research coordination and community outreach and engagement.

The coordinator will work with a newly funded research project on increasing diversity within clinical research. The coordinator will work with Dr. Janice Krieger and Steve Anton (PIs) and Miriam Buhr (supervisor) to coordinate study-related tasks, activities, and all research related meetings.

Essential Functions:
  • Communicate on a regular basis with PIs and all internal and external parties, related to the projects and the coordination of all study related activities and research-related meetings.
  • Assist in the dissemination of grant-related findings via mediated and non-mediated channels. Activities include updating website and social media sites as needed and preparing slides and posters for research presentations.
  • Coordinate meetings for externally, internally, and pilot funded projects, coordinating focus group and in-depth interviews, planning and coordinating community outreach events, and creating reports.
  • Assist in project-related data collection that may include but are not limited to administering surveys at study sites, taking notes during focus groups and in-depth interviews, maintaining raw and de- identified data records in accordance with applicable policies and regulations, and preparing data for analysis and transcriptions.
  • Conduct data analytic tasks such as descriptive analysis of quantitative data using Excel and SPSS, coding of quantitative and qualitative data sets, and preparation of graphs and charts.
  • Collaborate with research community. Attend weekly team meetings. Liaison with other research coordinators, Institutional Review Board (IRB), Research Participant Payment (RPP) and develop excellent communications with collaborators.

Expected Salary:

$38,900 - $54,000, commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education and Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in health sciences, health administration, public health, health planning, or related field strongly preferred.
Preferred Experience:
  • Three years of experience in a similar program role in a complex academic/research environment.
Preferred Skills:
  • Relevant experience in public health programming, health education, or community-based nursing.
  • Spanish language proficiency is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and group communication skills. Able to encourage, motivate, and advocate for eligible individuals throughout the initiative. Ability to give presentations about health data, screening procedures, and clinical follow-up.
  • Experience with diverse ethnic, socio-economic and educational populations in terms of taking health and social histories, preparing individuals for discussions with their physicians and recruiting participants for research.
  • Comfortable conducting community/field visits, obtaining clinical information, and providing health information in clinical and community settings.
  • Able to use technology to conduct meetings (Zoom), and be adept at social media on the web and on mobile devices
  • Expert proficiency in all MS Office applications. Experience with project management software a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, anticipate and identify conflicts, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated appreciation and ease of working in a culturally diverse organization.
  • Proven ability to work well in a demanding, fast-paced deadline-driven work atmosphere with the ability to assess the environment and adjust plans according to situation.
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills with internal and external stakeholders to strategically plan and deliver assigned projects.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and professional practice based on developing and maintaining collaborative, positive and effective working relationships across multiple functional groups
  • Highly collaborative and energetic work style with the proven ability to partner with diverse groups to achieve intended outcomes.
