Position Summary
The person hired for this position will direct the college’s low-residency MFA program in Narrative Nonfiction , a two-year degree that trains participants to write nonfiction books or long-form articles in narrative style for national and international publishers and/or to teach writing at the university level. The professor will teach in the MFA program and in the undergraduate journalism curriculum.

A master’s degree or above (a terminal degree such as an MFA or PhD) is required.
Additional Requirements
Candidates who hold a master’s degree must document exceptional professional accomplishments and be approved for a terminal-degree exception before hire.
Candidates for the rank of associate or full professor who have not been tenured at a prior institution must be approved for tenure on appointment by the Chancellor of the University System of Georgia.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Candidates for this position must have success in writing and publishing narrative nonfiction and in working with and leading communities of writers. Candidates must have at least five years of journalism industry experience as a writer or editor.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
It is preferred that candidates show evidence of administrative expertise, as the person hired for this position will organize two annual weeklong conference-style residencies for the MFA program in Narrative Nonfiction and oversee internal and external communications related to the program. He/she/they also will recruit new students into the MFA program and will recruit and manage remotely a diverse roster of mentors who work closely with students to inspire and support each writer’s emerging craft and voice. The mentors include accomplished authors and other industry professionals.
