Job Summary:
e purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled duties to ensure proper operation of campus facilities related to buildings elements. Works independently and under the guidance of a journeyman in a respective trade. When working under the guidance of a journeyman in a respective trade, incumbents in possession of an apprentice card in that specialty may receive credit hours as an apprentice.
Job Duties:
This list includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Provides training and guidance to Facilities Technicians and part-time staff regarding general facilities maintenance.
- Acts as a point of contact for facility needs and coordinates necessary services to meet daily needs.
- Troubleshoots issues and receives, creates and completes service requests.
- Orders supplies as needed to maintain appropriate inventory.
- Performs various maintenance functions, including minor building and system repairs, moving furniture and equipment and tracking stored inventory. Under the guidance of a journeyman, may perform work related to facilities trades and receive credit hours as an apprentice in that specialty.
- Operates hand and power tools associated with building maintenance and repair, as well as equipment such as tractors, trucks, forklifts, lifts, and large frontline mowers.
- Assists other departments as needed, including but not limited to landscape services, custodial services, fleet services and mail copy services. Accepts direction from supervisor of assigned department(s).
- Operates snow removal equipment to assist in campus-wide snow removal operations.
- Maintains availability for shift work, on-call, and/or irregular schedules, including weekends, to keep NIC safe and operational. Responds to emergency calls, to include a rotating 24 on-call shift.
- Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and work relationship with supervisors, college staff, students, and the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience : High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of two years full-time equivalent related experience is required. Experience performing semi-skilled duties in the operation, maintenance and repair of buildings and related facilities and systems is required.
Required License and/or Certifications :
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of facility maintenance, custodial, landscape, mail copy and/or fleet services preferred
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to effectively and safely operate hand and power tools, as well as heavy equipment
• Proficient skills in operating office equipment and a computer, including Microsoft Office
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to prioritize work orders
• Ability to read, write and speak in English
