The Outreach Program Manager is the public face of the Barlow Planetarium, whose efforts will ensure that the development, implementation, and evaluation of PK-12 educational programming, and secondarily, public programming, is successful. The Outreach Program Manager provides guidance for program planning, implementation and evaluation and supervises the outreach staff. In addition, this position monitors budget and appropriate funding for programming, promotes stable and productive relationships between the university and community and strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.

Supervises the implementation of outreach-program focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives for the Planetarium and serves as the public face with media on astronomy and planetarium issues.

Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the outreach program in alignment with the strategic plan of the Planetarium and University including collaboration with the Weis Earth Science Museum and other academic and non-academic units at the University.

Monitors the program budget and approves program expenditures and oversees the maintenance of equipment and technology.

Reviews recommendation for and provides input on the design and development of new outreach programs or services, provides programming when appropriate and identifies funding sources and writes grants to ensure the long term financial stability of the planetarium.

Exercises supervisory authority including approval of hours worked for employees of the unit. Supervises daily activities of planetarium staff, provide training and evaluate performance.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in astronomy, physics, related physical science, science education, or related field

Professional experience in planetarium, science center, or similar informal science education institution.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Preferred:

Masters Degree with an emphasis in astronomy, physics, related physical science, science education, or related field.

Experience in supervisory or operations management.

Grant writing/fundraising experience desirable.
