ABOUT THE POSITION:
In keeping with the community values of Lewis & Clark College and the mission and direction of the Division of Student Life, the Assistant Director of Campus Living is responsible for the engaging, transformative, and efficient management of aspects of the residential experience and student leadership in residence. The Assistant Director supports the delivery of a residential program student leader experience that reflects the core values of Lewis & Clark and addresses the mission of the College. Reporting to the Director of Campus Living, the Assistant Director of Campus Living will establish and maintain student leader experience and performance standards. The Assistant Director will anticipate, develop, and implement best practices that are responsive to trends regarding student success, programming, and administrative operations for Campus Living. The Assistant Director will develop a residential student leader curriculum that brings value and impact to student leader retention and engagement, student and staff employee training and development. The Assistant Director works closely with Campus Living and Facilities staff to ensure that the residential environments are safe, well maintained, educationally purposeful, and supportive of the mission of the College.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Management (20% of the time)
  • Develop and implement strategies to build a strong, effective, and dynamic living and learning residential community based upon best practices.
  • Monitor residential facilities and collaborate with facilities colleagues to ensure a safe, secure and healthy living environment.
  • Liaise with Conference and Events on the use of Campus Living facilities during the year and for summer building usage.
  • Serve on the on-call crisis management response team for the College as a Senior Administrator on Call (SAOC), as needed.
Leadership and Management (50% of the time)
  • Responsible for supervision, evaluation, performance management, and discipline of assigned live-in residential staff to create an optimal living environment based on learning goals and objectives, building of community, and assisting students to develop and become autonomous and resilient.
  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of Student Leader recruitment, selection, & training.
  • Develops and implements processes for on and off boarding student leaders on annual timelines.
  • Directs processes for student leader transition periods between academic and summer quarter operations.
  • Directs annually the review, research, and evaluation of all aspects of the recruitment, selection, training, and performance management processes for Campus Living student leaders and staff.
  • Responsible for developing all Student Leader performance management and evaluation processes and training professional staff on their implementation.
  • Encourage, inspire, and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among employees.
  • Build and work with diverse teams effectively.
Campus Partnerships and Collaboration (25% of the time)
  • Serve on the College’s Student Support Network to help facilitate the support of residential students.
  • Collaborate with student mental health support services on campus to ensure Campus Living student leaders are supported and effective in their student facing work.
  • Collaborate with offices on campus to establish cyclical joint leadership training and development across the CAS campus.
  • Collaborate with the New Student Orientation to plan and execute operational and programmatic tasks associated with pre-orientation.
Budget Management (5% of the time)
  • Manage budget expenditures related to student leader training, selection, and compensation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Services or an appropriate area of specialization.
  • 3 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of standardized but moderately complex procedures and operations. Ability to apply procedures or operate varied equipment for purposes of performing standard operations.
  • Background in University or College Housing/Residential Programs.
  • Experience with managing a project budget.
  • Knowledge of residential living, student development theory, programming philosophy, and assessment.
  • Experience with emergency response and crisis management.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population and supporting the development of inclusive environments.
  • Proven success developing partnerships.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
  • Ability to work evening and weekends as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with management, supervision, and development of professional staff.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of procedures in specialized or technical field to perform various complex assignments. Ability to apply complex procedures requiring judgement.
PAY RATE:
  • $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience
