Art History (Position Code 22-101 -AUKWEB 04): The American University of Kuwait is inviting applications for an open rank full-time faculty position of Art History in the Department of Art and Graphic Design. A terminal degree (Ph.D.) in the field or a closely related discipline is preferred. The Department is actively seeking candidates whose teaching and research interests focus on the history of art and design, architecture, and material/visual culture, especially as it pertains to the Arab and Islamic world and/or the Middle East; other closely related Non-Western specializations will also be considered. Candidates must have previous teaching experience at the university level. Responsibilities include but are not limited to 1) teaching courses that help fulfill the Humanities and Arabic Culture components of our General Education requirements, 2) teaching core Art History requirements for the major, which includes the History of Design, 3) advising students, and 4) service to the department, college, and university through committee involvement, student assessment, and course development.

1) Cover letter detailing the candidate’s specific interest in AUK, and how the candidate’s past experience provides a suitable basis for performance in the position for which s/he is applying.
2) A current CV
3) Statements on teaching goals and philosophy, research, and service.
4) Copies of teaching evaluations if available and letters of reference.
5) The names and addresses, both electronic and postal, of three referees.
6) Two recent publications or two writing samples.
