Job Summary: The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks an Executive Director of the Office of Instructional Technology and Faculty Resources. The person appointed to this faculty position will provide leadership for the operations of the Office of Instructional Technology and Faculty Resources and participate as a faculty member within the Department of Academic Affairs Faculty, Division of Education Innovation and Student Life, and the University.

 

Job Duties: 

  • 50% - Administration: Leadership/Mentoring/Supervision
  • Lead the educational technology team in supporting best practices in education innovation, technology integration, and instructional design
  • Supervise a team of instructional designers, academic media and web designers, and support personnel
  • Develop, articulate, and implement MUSC's vision for educational innovation and technology across the enterprise
  • Serve as a liaison between faculty, students, staff, and Information Solutions to ensure the availability and integrity of educational technology and the learning management system (LMS)
  • Oversee the university's Learning Management System (LMS) and develop an ongoing assessment by routinely analyzing faculty, student, and staff needs through surveys and other feedback mechanisms
  • Continuously scan the environment for innovative trends and opportunities in educational technology and health care education
  • Evaluate emerging technology and assessment tools, and assist senior academic leaders on strategic and operational decisions involving educational technology hardware, software, and programs
  • Assess the effectiveness of, and lead efforts to improve the university's implementation of technology tools for instructional purposes
  • Leverage knowledge of research, competition, and trends to develop strategies for marketing online programs and evaluate the feasibility of new initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Administration and Associate Provost for Education Innovation & Student Life in EISL to submit budget requests annually and respond to budget issues as required throughout the year that aligns with targeted department and institutional goals.
  • 20% - Teaching: Curriculum Support, Instructional Development, Academic Consultation, Teaching
  • Provide and support faculty professional development opportunities in best practices in teaching and in the use of educational technology
  • Ensure that faculty, students, and staff receive sufficient training and support to effectively utilize the university's educational technology systems
  • Establish strong partnerships with members of the faculty to develop dynamic and effective learning scenarios using educational technology
  • Ensure course offerings are accessible to all students and technology is being fully utilized to improve accessibility across the University 
  • 15% - Service: Institutional/Community
  • Serve on University committees as needed to review, interpret, and determine implications of University practices on educational effectiveness; and coordinate and participate in the development and analysis of related data
  • Work with academic leaders to support their vision for student, staff, and professional learning
  • Support the development and maintenance of contractual relationships as they relate to online and technology-enhanced offerings
  • Collaborate with other Higher Education institutions around the state, nation and world
  • 10% - Scholarship: Presentations/Publications/Professional Development
  • Engage in scholarly activities including publications and presentations at conferences and workshops focused on effective teaching and the use of educational technology
  • Work with colleagues in the pursuit of grants and partnerships for ITFR and the University 
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned

 

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: Display leadership and managerial experience in a comparable academic healthcare and/or public University environment with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead the educational technology affairs of a complex organization.

  • Be a thorough and detail-oriented professional with the insight to anticipate issues and to create new and innovative solutions

  • Exhibit a strong commitment to the enhancement of diversity, inclusivity and equity within the University

  • Possess a high energy level and ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects, with the adaptability to move equally between long-term strategic issues to short-term tactical implementation

  • Understand the importance of cross-divisional collaboration and foster the development of partnerships designed to increase the effectiveness of the University

  • Exhibit superb verbal, written and interpersonal skills and have outstanding persuasion and presentation skills; be an articulate communicator and good listener with an open and honest personal style who is equally effective in formal and informal settings.

  • Demonstrate the highest level of personal ethics and professional integrity to engender total confidence in business and moral conduct.

 

An advanced terminal degree in educational technology, health or science education, or business- related field. At least 5 years of experience of direct involvement in educational technology and teaching required as well as administrative and project management experience. Possess the ability to interact comfortably and respectively with diverse individuals.
