The Corporate & Community Development Department at St. Charles Community College is seeking a part-time, Project-Based ESL Instructor for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The instructor will be responsible for preparing for, instructing, and managing a class of adult learners studying English at high intermediate and advanced levels. Candidate should have strong English grammar skills, math skills, and confidence in teaching grammar, vocabulary, workforce concepts and employability skills to students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.:

  • Instructs English as a Second Language students in conversational reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English at an advanced level.

  • Works cooperatively with other agencies to prepare appropriate students for transition to post-secondary education or workforce training.

  • Prepares advanced ESL students to pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), using TOEFL relevant materials.

  • Plans and conducts individual and group instructional activities to begin and end at posted class times.

  • Plans individual, small group, and large group instructional activities based on individual student needs.

  • Documents lesson plans and teaching strategies on Lesson Plan Overview.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree, at least two years' experience with TOEFL, and eligibility for AEL certification are required.
  • AEL certification can be provided by SCC for the right candidate.
  • Two years previous adult teaching experience and TOEFL instruction certification preferred.

Applicants: This is a project-based and grant funded. Experience will be considered.

Assignment is anticipated to start in August. Completed applications for review consideration should be received prior to April 15th.

Hours: Wednesday and Thursday evenings (6-9pm) and Friday morning (9am - Noon).
