Essential Functions (Job Duties)
JOB PURPOSE:
Plan and implement a wide range of alumni engagement programs, events, initiatives, and communications focusing on specific alumni populations employed or affiliated with Wayne State's most significant corporate partners. Build and manage official alumni affinity groups for these alumni populations while maintaining alignment with the broader institutional objectives for each partnership. In collaboration with Corporate Relations, identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with alumni executives willing and capable of serving as alumni volunteer leaders and/or University ambassadors. Share in the duties of officially representing the Office of Alumni Relations (Alumni Relations) and the Alumni Association (Association) at virtual, in-person, and hybrid programs. This position reports to the Associate Director, Alumni Relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and implement a comprehensive suite of alumni engagement programs, events, initiatives, and communications focusing on specific alumni populations employed or affiliated with Wayne State's most significant corporate partners. Collaborate with colleagues in Alumni Relations, Corporate Relations, Special Events, and the school/college/unit-based development & alumni relations officers to coordinate and implement high quality, meaningful, and relevant alumni programs and activities aligned with the broader priorities of WSU's corporate partnerships.

Build and manage official alumni affinity groups for alumni populations employed or affiliated with Wayne State's most significant corporate partners. Serve as primary staff liaison for these organized alumni affinity groups. Work with team members to plan and implement a portfolio of affinity programs that effectively bring together and serve alumni who share common industry bonds through programs, events, communications campaigns, and volunteer opportunities.

Plan and implement a portfolio of programs that engage specific alumni populations employed or affiliated with Wayne State's most significant corporate partners directly with WSU students (future alumni) and recent alumni (graduated within the last ten years). Manage events, programs, and volunteer opportunities that encourage and facilitate student-alumni interaction and support student success.

Develop personal contacts and build strong, long-term relationships with alumni, students, and volunteers. In coordination with colleagues, conduct personal visits with alumni to identify, cultivate, and recruit volunteers, and deepen loyalty to the University. Assist with the planning and execution of major annual initiatives, including WSU Giving Day and the Alumni Week of Service.

Write and edit a variety of content for print and digital platforms under the supervisor's direction, including event/program marketing pieces and invitations, alumni spotlights, news items, and social media posts. Work with Associate Director, Alumni Communications, to coordinate the schedule for targeted corporate alumni engagement-related communications campaigns. Act as project lead for various communications projects, as directed.

Initiate financial documents including Direct Payment Requests, IRBs, travel authorizations and reimbursement and purchase requisitions in Wayne Buy for events, programs, and services in compliance with university policies and procedures. Prepare and gather statistical, metric, and tracking data for reporting purposes, return on investment (ROI) measurement, and ongoing benchmarking of Alumni Relations activities and outcomes.

Research, maintain, and apply a current working knowledge of innovative approaches and trends in alumni engagement, specifically related to program, volunteer, and event management. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Unique Duties

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
Bachelor's degree. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, communications, public relations, business administration, or related field.

Experience
Minimum two (2) years of experience in alumni programs, volunteer management, event planning, corporate relations, or related area.

Experience in successfully developing, implementing, and executing constituent engagement strategies, programs, and events.

Experience in a higher education alumni relations, corporate relations, or non-profit environment preferred.

Positive and collaborative professional philosophy, recognizing that this position is integral to the achievement of the goals and objectives of Development and Alumni Affairs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Maturity, sound judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.

ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms. Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.

TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.
