Responsibilities:
The senior director of principal
gifts will have primary responsibility for the solicitation of
principal gifts for The University of Akron from its natural
constituency and beyond in the range of $5,000,000+. The senior
director will be charged to identify, cultivate, solicit and
steward 50 to 75 prospects for The University of Akron, requiring
that approximately 80% of their time be spent on direct
face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The senior
director is responsible for development and implementation of
strategies to drive the principal giving fundraising efforts of
strategic initiatives and implementation of strategies to drive the
principal giving fundraising efforts of strategic initiatives and
global principal giving department. The senior director is
responsible for developing and overseeing the comprehensive annual
fundraising for the College of Business with supervisory
responsibilities of an assistant director of development.
Functioning as part of a university development team, the incumbent
will be expected to work collegially, and in partnership with
central and college/school-based colleagues.
The successful candidate will manage principal gift
($5,000,000+) fundraising and strategies for development by
providing planning and oversight to the identification,
cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, and performance-measurement
activities. Manage College of Business fundraising and
strategies for development by providing planning and oversight to
the identification, cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, and
performance-measurement activities. Supervise the assistant
director of development, College of Business. Set short and
long-term goals and engagement objectives for strategic initiatives
and global principal gifts. Plan strategies for the identification,
cultivation, and solicitation of gifts for a portfolio of 50 to 75
principal gift prospects and donors with the responsibility of
raising private support to the university and the achievement of
personal fundraising goals. Identify new prospects, develop new
opportunities and strategies for achieving the university's
fundraising objectives and create effective opportunities for
cultivation, stewardship and solicitation for strategic initiatives
and global principal giving prospects, donors, and volunteers.
Develop strategies to build strong relationships and collaborate
with, taking the lead, the central development staff, prospect
management, and development research, as well as
college/school-based colleagues, to plan development fundraising
activities. Recruit, coordinate, motivate and work closely with
alumni and campus volunteers, including trustees and senior
administrators, to engage donors most effectively for the
university. Facilitate and/or participate in fundraising visits.
Incumbent supervises a team of assistant development
officers. Perform other duties and responsibilities as
assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Requires a relevant
Bachelor's Degree and four (4) or more years of increasing
responsibility in the area of development, alumni relations, public
relations or marketing. Proven track record of successful fund
raising.
Demonstrated ability to secure principal gifts of $1 million to $5 million. Demonstrated credibility necessary to influence and tactfully manage relationships with internal and external constituencies. Experience in gaining access to and establishing connections with national business, foundation, and industry leaders, philanthropists; and other high-level individuals. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. Proven ability to plan, initiate, manage, and evaluate challenging logistical situations. Must demonstrate proven ability to troubleshoot and to identify problems and appropriate responses to complex issues. Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Capacity to develop and execute complex strategy impacting philanthropic effectiveness. Must possess superior managerial and organizational skills. Strong writing skills required. Must be able to travel and work outside of regular office hours. Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Office) and ability to learn new programs. Ability to meet consistent attendance.

Salary:
The salary range for this position
starts at $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience and
qualifications. We offer a competitive compensation and
