The Classification and Compensation Unit of Human Resources works in partnership with academic and business units as well as other areas of Human Resources to ensure the design and maintenance of classification structures as well as the ongoing development of compensation programs, policies and approaches in order to meet the unique needs of our campus while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, collective bargaining agreements, and campus policies. We provide analysis, tools, strategies, and solutions for our campus constituents so that they may achieve their classification and compensation objectives in an effective, efficient, consistent, and equitable manner. The Talent Acquisition team within Human Resources supports the University's efforts to attract, hire, and retain world-class faculty and staff. We provide guidance, consultative support, transactional assistance, and tools and resources for all stages of recruitment and hiring. In providing these essential services, we are committed to collaborative relationships with our campus partners, responsiveness to candidate needs and trends, continuous improvement, creative solutions, timeliness, effectiveness, and compliance.

Talent Acquisition and Classification and Compensation are units within Human Resources in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the university's many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping the campus safe, clean, accessible, and beautiful.
Position Summary
As a member of the University Human Resources leadership team reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), the Senior Director of Talent Acquisition, Classification and Compensation provides key leadership for comprehensive talent acquisition and classification and compensation management for all University of Oregon positions. The Senior Director guides and manages a team of professionals that provides support, resources, and expertise to the campus community related to candidate attraction, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, compensation strategy and management, and classification management.

In this position, you will design and implement innovative recruitment, hiring, compensation and classification strategies for the campus, tailoring those strategies to respond to the labor market and business needs across campus. You'll leverage those strategies to develop and enhance internal career paths and advancement for current employees while maintaining equitable and transparent processes and policies.

In the Senior Director position, you'll build strong, effective relationships with people at all levels of the organization to provide consultation on recruiting, compensation, and reorganization strategies that will attract and retain talented, diverse candidates for the wide variety of campus needs. The University of Oregon is in the process of implementing a unit-based shared service model, and you'll provide key partnerships to these units.

You will also have the opportunity to identify, create and maintain efficient processes, ensuring best practice use of our talent management and human resources information systems (HRIS). You'll use data, best practices, and a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to guide your work.

This position is based in Eugene with some level of flexibility including the option to work remotely with frequent commuting to campus. All adjusted work arrangements require supervisor and leadership approval.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree plus eight years of progressively responsible HR experience that includes Talent Acquisition, Classification, and Compensation functions; OR an equivalent combination of skills, experience, and education
  • Experience supervising professional staff

  • Proven ability to lead a successful team of direct reports
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex issues and opportunities related to equity and inclusion that advance a diverse faculty and staff
  • Ability to work effectively with employees from a variety of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to reprioritize, recommend creative solutions to problems, and deliver against tight deadlines
  • Knowledgeable about fundamental and emerging recruiting, classification, and compensation trends and processes, regulations, and state and federal laws
  • Demonstrated experience with Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and applicant tracking systems
  • Ability to provide high-level vision and leadership supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledgeable about pay systems, pay equity, and salary ranges
  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of work product, confidentiality, and integrity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including successful presentation and facilitation skills with sensitivity to the perspective of various audiences
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, persuasion, and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated experience in project management
    Preferred Qualifications
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
  • Experience in Human Resources in higher education
  • Advanced degree
