Position Summary

The Director of Student Housing and Conduct (SHC) provides leadership for student conduct and student housing, including facility operations, residential planning, and student engagement programming for the residential community. The Director leads the student housing conversation on campus, ensuring student needs are met and planning for future housing developments. This position manages a residential life program that is relevant to higher education trends, values innovation and energizes a vibrant student experience.  

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of Higher Education.  
  • A minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience in student housing, with at least three of those years at an Assistant Director level or above.   
  • A minimum of three years of professional staff supervision and a demonstrated ability to lead a team.   
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.   
  • Experience utilizing assessment to continuously improve a program, project or department 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling or a related field.  
  • Two years or more experience as a Director of Student Housing in a collegiate setting. 
  • Experience with department level budget management.   
  • Experience with project design and/or construction of residential facilities. 
  • Experience managing Public-Private Partnerships as part of a student housing portfolio.   
  • Experience contributing to a Behavior Intervention Team or a committee with similar expectations.     
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service.  
  • Specialized knowledge of Clery Act reporting, Title IX, Student Conduct, and Student Housing. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills to prioritize assignments, set goals, and project department needs, while meeting deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities at the same time.  
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, faculty, alumni, guests and visitors.   
  • Experience with StarRez and Maxient databases.  
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office Suite, including Teams and SharePoint, and use of databases.     
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language that is common to our student body (English, Spanish, Navajo, etc.) 
Major Responsibilities
  • Provide inspirational vision, leadership, and oversight for the college’s comprehensive Student Housing & Conduct department.  
  • Engage and support a diverse campus community and foster a welcoming, supportive, safe, and inclusive environment that promotes a sense of belonging and connection to campus life. 
  • Provide leadership on student conduct procedures and implementation, serving as a coordinator, investigator, and sanctioning authority. Ensure proper Clery Act reporting and relevant updates to Student Housing Guide, and websites.   
  • Serve as liaison with Physical Plant Services, ensuring effective maintenance of all Residential Life facilities and assist the Dean of Student Engagement with projects related to facility development. 
  • Develop strong residential communities both on-campus and with Public-Private Partners, ensuring quality programming that fosters student engagement, student development, positive cross-cultural experiences, and overall student retention.  
  • Oversee all assessment activities within the department, ensuring programs, services and systems are informed by data. 
  • Develop the annual budget, setting appropriate targets for revenue and expenses, including annual contributions to capital reserves. Regularly analyze local housing market data and establish competitive housing rate structure and contract provisions. 
  • Develop and implement an efficient and effective staffing model, ensuring that individuals with the needed knowledge, skills, and abilities are in place to support strategic priorities. 
  • Oversee all personnel-related matters in accordance with college policy, including hiring, termination, promotion, professional development and training. 
  • Provide guidance and oversight of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). 
  • Strengthen the administrative policies and processes of SHC including but not limited to housing assignments, marketing materials, training programs, enterprise systems, and technology deployment.  
  • Forge connections and regular dialogue with other colleges/universities that have similar residential models and ensure the residential life program remains innovative and relevant to higher ed. trends.  
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities 
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508. 
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard.  
  • Occasionally ascend / descend stairs in student housing buildings that do not have elevators. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work 
  • Light to moderate lifting is required. 
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $77,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
