Looking for a way to positively impact the water research community? Interested in leading a dynamic, community-serving organization? The Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI) is seeking a new Executive Director with the vision and management skills to lead the consortium in its important role of advancing water science through community efforts such as: developing, supporting, and operating research infrastructure; improving access to data, information and models; articulating priorities for community-level water-related research and observations; facilitating interactions among the diverse water research community; promoting interdisciplinary education centered in water science; and translating scientific advancements into effective tools for water management and policy. The Executive Director also serves as President (Chief Executive Officer) of the Corporation and reports to the Board of Directors.

CUAHSI is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization representing more than 100 U.S. colleges, universities, and international water science institutions. CUAHSI is primarily supported through cooperative agreements with the National Science Foundation (NSF), but has developed a broader portfolio of funded initiatives with other federal agencies, member institutions, and donor organizations. CUAHSI has an extensive portfolio of education and outreach programs, as well as leading the development of hydroinformatics tools such as http://www.hydroshare.org. Major responsibilities include:

    Work with the Board of Directors and the water science community to successfully implement CUAHSI’s mission and develop a strategic vision for the future directions of the Consortium

    Develop new initiatives and enhance funding to support CUAHSI’s mission

    Successfully manage existing projects and cooperative agreements with NSF

    Implement CUAHSI’s programs and activities, as defined by the Board of Directors and its Executive Committee

    Guide CUAHSI’s process of long-term planning through consultation with the Board of Directors and the research community

    Oversee the daily operations of the organization and provide executive direction

    Lead, supervise, and collaborate with CUAHSI staff; hire and retain competent and qualified staff, and maintain a strong culture and positive work environment

    Ensure CUAHSI operates in the most ethical, inclusive and socially responsible manner possible and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the water science community

    Serve as the primary spokesperson for CUAHSI and represent CUAHSI in national and international activities, associations, conferences and other public venues

    Maintain a working relationship with NSF, other Federal entities, and additional entities

    Represent CUAHSI to other earth-science consortia, including UNAVCO, UNIDATA, and UCAR, as well as with international bodies engaged in relevant water science and data activities

    Monitor and manage CUAHSI’s finances and develop a long-term financial and business plan

    Assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintain official records and documents

Required Qualifications:

    Doctoral degree in a water-related field with extensive experience with multi-disciplinary research

    Demonstrated experience with leading major research programs and program management

Desired Qualifications:

    Demonstrated ability to lead a community-serving organization, provide direction and oversight, and create a positive working environment

    Demonstrated experience with managing and supervising staff, including geographically distributed remote teams

    Ability to form strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including funding agencies (e.g, NSF, NOAA, NASA, etc.) and CUAHSI community members

    Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and diversity

    Demonstrated experience with Federal grants management

The position is full time with a negotiable work location. Expected starting salary range is dependent upon experience and is approximately $140K - $180K, commensurate with an adjusted GS-15 scale. The preferred start date is Fall 2022 but no later than January 2023.
