Visiting Assistant Professor-Production – School of Film and Media Arts

The School of Film and Media Arts at Cleveland State University is seeking applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Film & Media Arts – Film & Digital Media Production, starting August 22, 2022. CSU is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. This position will teach four courses per semester and engage in service duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have professional experience in film pre-production, production, and a strong sense of visual storytelling. Candidates should be able to teach a broad variety of film and media arts courses particularly intermediate and advanced production courses.

Located on the top floor of the Idea Center building in downtown Cleveland’s Playhouse Square, the School of Film & Media Arts has a 72 credit BFA program focused on the creation of original work with six tracks: Writing and Directing, Writing and Producing, Acting and Directing, Cinematography, Post-Production and Interactive Media. The state- of-the-art 36,000 square foot facility includes a 10gb network with Avid Nexis media server, iMac teaching labs, two sound stages, a well-equipped equipment cage and spectacular views of the city and Lake Erie.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MFA in film (or a related field)
  • 2 years of professional experience in film production
  • Successful teaching experience at the university level
  • Evidence of deep familiarity with professional production processes, equipment and techniques for narrative, documentary and experimental filmmaking
  • Ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the CSU community


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years teaching experience at the university level
  • National/international production credits
  • Ability to teach Directing courses
  • Experience and familiarity with Sony cinema cameras and other professional film production tools and techniques
