The Los Rios Community College District ( LRCCD ) is the second largest, two-year public college district in California, serving approximately 75,000 students in the greater Sacramento region. Position Summary
Attend and successfully complete the Basic POST academy within the timelines as set out by the District. Failure to successfully complete the Basic POST academy within the prescribed timeline will result in termination.

Full-time, twelve-month employees receive 17 days of annual paid holidays, 15 days’ vacation yearly (with increases after 10 years), and 8 hours of sick leave per month. You are eligible for the aforementioned benefits as a regular employee with a permanent assignment of 0.50 FTE or greater. To calculate this position’s FTE, take the number of hours per week divided by 40, to get the percentage of hours worked. Then take the number of months worked divided by 12, to get the percentage of work year. Then take the percentage of hours worked divided by the percentage of months worked to get the position’s FTE (e.g., a position that is 30 hours per week with a work year of 12 months: 30/40 = 0.75; 12/12 = 1; 0.75/1 = 0.75 FTE ). Assignment Responsibilities
The Police Officer Cadet position is utilized specifically for the purpose of training the incumbent to develop the minimum qualifications necessary to become a sworn police officer. The Police Officer Cadet is a long-term, temporary position. Typically the candidate has not yet entered or completed the Peace Officer Standards and Training ( POST ) Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

Upon successful completion of the LRPD hiring and background process, Police Officer Cadets will attend the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center ( SRPSTC ) through the Los Rios Community College District. In addition to attending the ( SRPSTC ) Basic Law Enforcement Academy (approximately 24 hours per week), Police Officer Cadets may perform related duties as assigned by the LRPD Chief of Police. Incumbents will receive salary and benefits for a 40 hour per week assignment.

Upon successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy within the required timeframe, Police Officer Cadets that have met the hiring requirements as an LRPD Police Officer, and at the discretion of the Chief of Police, may be appointed to the classification of Police Officer with the District.

Additional Information
The Los Rios Community College District will pay for academy attendance, as well as salary and health benefits during this assignment. As a result, a three-year employment commitment as a Police Officer within the Los Rios Community College District will be required. If the employee chooses to terminate his/her employment with the district prior to the expiration of the three year time period, the employee will be expected to reimburse the district for a pro-rated portion of the academy, salary and benefit costs borne during the training period.

The work week is typically Monday – Friday but can have include Saturdays when the Basic Law Enforcement Academy is in session. The academy dates depend on the academy cadet is attending. At the time of hire, possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License in compliance with Los Rios Board Regulation R-8343; employment is contingent upon meeting the requirements of Los Rios Board Regulation R-8343. This position may require operating a District or personal vehicle in order to complete assigned work within the scope of the position duties. At the time of hire, possess and maintain a first aid certificate and CPR certificate; pass a background check; all work must be performed without the use of sidearms, chemical agents, or other offensive weapons. Must successfully complete a background investigation prior to appointment date, including fingerprint check with D.O.J. and F.B.I., and must be eligible to attend a certified P.O.S.T. basic training Academy.
