This tenure-track faculty position will oversee a portfolio of extramural grants/contracts, including evaluation activities related to a collaboration between the College of Social Sciences, Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) and the State of Hawai'i Med-QUEST Division, Department of Human Services. The project leverages health claims and related data, including but not limited to: clinical, public health, and social determinants of health to advance research and inform policy. Other Conditions: To begin August 1, 2022 or January 1, 2023, subject to position clearance and availability of funds. A tenure track appointment with the Social Science Research Institute. Continuous recruitment. Review of applications will begin on May 1, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. Position fully funded by extramural funds for three years; instructional duties will be covered by extramural funds for this period. 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Serve in the Social Science Research Institute to carryout healthcare-related evaluation projects;
2. Conduct applied research on health and/or healthcare policy, program evaluation, and/or implementation science;
3. Publish in scholarly peer-reviewed academic journals and disseminate findings to stakeholders;
4. Lead health-related evaluation projects with a team of graduate research assistants and undergraduate interns that informs local and national health policy;
5. Teach undergraduate or graduate courses on quantitative analysis, program evaluation, implementation science and/or mixed methods research, as needed;
6. Conduct service and outreach in congruence with the College of Social Sciences’ mission;
7. Other duties as assigned by the SSRI director.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Ph.D. in psychology, public health, economics, sociology, or related fields from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalent. ABDs will be considered but all degree requirements must be completed prior to date of hire. ABDs must also submit a letter from their committee chair attesting that dissertation and all degree requirements will be completed prior to date of hire;
2. Demonstrated ability to conduct research relevant to health policies and/or evaluation;
3. A Demonstrated record of research achievement (scholarly peer-reviewed publications, grants) commensurate with time in field;
4. Ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Demonstrated ability to communicate research and/or evaluation findings to a wide range of audiences;
2. Demonstrated ability to manage projects while supervising staff, graduate and/or undergraduate students;
3. Demonstrated ability work in teams in multi-cultural settings;
4. Demonstrated ability to manage public health or healthcare claims data;
5. Demonstrated knowledge of health disparities and/or healthcare systems;
6. Experience mentoring and/or advise students in the applicant's area of expertise.
