Job Description

Build a rewarding career as the Associate Director of Data Management for the Siena College Research Institute (SCRI). You have the opportunity to work with other talented professionals in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment in the important and exciting field of public opinion research. 

The Associate Director of Data Management is a full-time position that will report to the Director of Data Management.  Primary job responsibilities include: maintaining new client customer satisfaction surveys, data processing, survey programming, initial data analysis, and website maintenance.

The Associate Director of Data Management is expected to learn and understand SCRI's modes of service (experience in public opinion polling or market research is preferred).   SCRI has a wide variety of services available including: public opinion polls, focus groups, face-to-face in-depth interviews, membership surveys, consultations, in-person or web presentations, data analysis or multi-methodological surveys including a combination of web, mail and phone.

Founded in 1980 at Siena College in New York's Capital District, the Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) conducts regional, statewide and national surveys on business, economic, political, voter, social, academic and historical issues. The surveys include both expert and public opinion polls.

The results of SCRI surveys have been published in major regional and national newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, as well as in scholarly journals, books and encyclopedias (both print and online). Survey results are regularly featured on local and national television and radio and multiple online sources.

SCRI conducts the Siena New York Poll, a monthly snapshot poll of registered voters from throughout New York State on timely political topics, and the New York State Index of Consumer Sentiment, a quarterly look at New Yorkers' willingness to spend.

SCRI subscribes to the American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) Code of Professional Ethics and Practices.

SCRI is frequently commissioned to conduct surveys for organizations, businesses, and local and state government agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Data Management to implement large client and public opinion surveys
  • Maintain survey projects to ensure timelines and deliverables are met
  • Responsible for programing surveys and sample management for telephone and internet delivery
  • Presenting quantitative data to clients, journalists, and students
  • Project management
  • Productivity assessments
  • Coordinating research projects between multiple call centers
  • Perform data analysis
  • Maintain dedicated website for display of survey results

Job Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree, 1 to 3 years of experience working with large datasets.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel), strong written and verbal communications skills, basic understanding of statistics and website design.  Experience with Qualtrics, SPSS, and/or CATI software a plus.

Familiarity with data analysis techniques and survey methodology, sampling theory, sample management, and quota management are preferred.  The applicant should be comfortable with project management including pre-election survey coordination that includes survey programming, scheduling of interviews across multiple call-centers, productivity assessments and data analysis.  The applicant should have the ability to present and explain complex quantitative data to various groups including clients, journalists and students.  Finally, the applicant should have the ability to program surveys, understanding programming logic, and the ability to learn and become proficient in iterative weighting techniques.

A background screening will be required.
