Job Description

Pre-award proposal development, approvals, and submission:

  1. Identify and communicate appropriate grant opportunities for faculty;
  2. Support faculty in developing grant applications and budgets that meet sponsor and college requirements and deadlines;
  3. Oversee and document applications, routing for approvals, and application submission;
  4. Serve as liaison between faculty and sponsoring agency personnel;
  5. Maintain SPIN account and application approval system in ProcessMaker;
  6. Act as primary administrator for online application portals, including Grants.gov, NSF FastLane and Research.gov, NASA NSPIRES, NIH eCommons, eGrants, etc.
  7. Assist other Siena departments that are preparing proposals for grants for institutional purposes that will be submitted to government agencies through the portals listed in #6.

Award acceptance, negotiation, and non-financial management:

  1. Review terms and conditions of new awards for potential issues and facilitate processing and approval of award documents;
  2. Collaborate with the assistant comptroller in training PIs/PDs in their roles and responsibilities in managing active awards as well as with rebudgeting, no-cost extensions, and other post-award functions;
  3. Advise PIs/PDs in interpretation of sponsors’ regulations and college procedures related to post-award administration;
  4. Serve as a resource to PIs/PDs in matters of non-financial award management.

Compliance, including policy development and implementation:

  1. Serve as primary source of expertise to ensure federal regulatory requirements related to sponsored research are met;
  2. Oversee compliance with college policies and sponsors’ terms and conditions, policies, and regulations;
  3. Review, update, and/or draft policies and procedures related to research compliance, including Responsible Conduct of Research, Financial Conflict of Interest, Research Misconduct, and other required federal and state policies, assurances, and certifications;
  4. Serve as primary administrator of the CITI online training programs and document completion of federally mandated training;
  5. Maintain External Grants Handbook and sponsored research website and update as needed;
  6. Participate in professional development activities such as conferences and webinars to remain up to date on regulations and best practices.

 

 Job Requirements

Minimum of three years of work experience at a higher education institution and in research administration; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; demonstrated leadership skills; and the ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.

Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: CRA (Certified Research Administrator). 

 A background screening will be required.
