A successful candidate will play an active role in FMU's existing academic success. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs (Associate Provost) reports directly to the Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost) and is an active participant in the administrative decision-making processes in the Office of Academic Affairs. The Associate Provost is an administrative appointment with non-tenure-track faculty status and is a member of the Academic Council. This customer-centric role is responsible to deliver service excellence support to meet the needs of our University community. Demonstrates the professionalism needed to handle sensitive and confidential matters.

The Associate Provost:
  • Reports directly to the Provost and collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators from across the institution to fulfill the institutional mission and strategic plan.
  • Assists the Provost in oversight of Institutional Accreditation, Assessment, and State and Local Licensure to ensure the institution’s alignment with all applicable standards and requirements.
  • Works with Academic Areas as assigned to develop strategic plans, create policies, and collaborates with other divisions to analyze and develop recommendations in response to evolving issues.
  • Assists the Provost in planning, directing, evaluating, and developing academic programs.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of any academic MOUs and ensures collaboration with the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management and Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs.
  • Provides oversight for the scheduling of academic courses.
  • Manages the grievance process for academic area concerns.
  • Supports planning and project management in the office of academic affairs.
  • Facilitates academic reviews and annual reports.
  • Oversees annual updates to Academic Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Academic Calendar, Academic Affairs Operations. Calendar, Convocation, Honors and Awards Day, and Commencement.
  • Assists in the development of funding strategies for academic programs.
  • Facilitates academic policy development and implementation.
  • Oversees the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and assessment.
  • Manages Center for Academic Resources and Support, iRoar Center, and Retention Services.
  • Develop and manage Honors College/Program.
Essential Functions :
  • Provides effective leadership in the process of internal and external program review and quality assurance by supervising accreditation reviews for the college and its programs, and internal program viability reviews and action plans. Supports curriculum development and leads program innovation and implementation.
  • Leads the performance of Academic Pathway Deans, Online Learning, Partnership Centers, staff, and other administrators as it relates to the recruitment, development, and support of a diverse faculty and staff and their commitment to student achievement, curriculum development, and implementation. Leads the identification and implementation of professional learning needs of staff to improve outcomes for students and for the college.
  • Serves the college through the charging of committees as well as committee involvement/sponsorship; and by developing and engaging in co-curricular activities and events to engage the Broward College and external communities.
  • Collects, compiles, compares, and analyzes the Academic Pathway, Online learning, and Partnership Centers' budget trends to maximize resource acquisition, expenditure, and allocations using BC business intelligence tools as well as other data. Accurately plans for budget needs during the college's budget planning cycle in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Leads the campus and Academic Pathway activities including the promotion of professional self-development, participation, and engagement with community partners such as advisory boards, local area schools, internal constituencies, and their initiatives and objectives relating to the mission and master plan of the university.
  • Collaborates closely with the AVP for Enrollment Management and the enrollment team relative to institutional outcomes, including retention and enrollment outcomes.
  • Collaborates with the Registrar and the IEA team (Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment) in ensuring that the Provost and other key institutional leaders receive integrated and usable data from multiple sources, including internal reports, internal surveys, best practices analyses, state requirements for educational delivery systems, international requirements for delivery systems, and all accreditation agencies and processes.
  • Assists with faculty recruitment, faculty supervision, and faculty development initiatives.
  • Works with the Registrar to evaluate the academic course schedule and ensures that courses scheduled at all locations and modalities meet with accreditation policies.
  • Collaborates with the AVP of Enrollment Management and AVP of Student Affairs to ensure the integration of Academic Area initiatives with spiritual formation and student experience.
  • Builds collaboration with deans, cabinets, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assist with economic viability optimization and thriving of all degrees, including new, market-sensitive, and adaptive degrees.
  • Regularly assesses the fiscal and enrollment impact of degree programs and delivery systems (on-line, extension sites, global deployments).
  • Performs tasks and duties as assigned by the Provost.
  • Leads the honors program initiative and study abroad.
  • Manage third-party instructional course-based platforms.

  • Recruits, trains and retains superior quality administrators and staff.
  • Provides Academic Pathway leadership, supervision, professional development opportunities, and evaluation of the Pathway Deans.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees the budget of all assigned areas.
  • Works directly with contractual provisions, interpreting contract language, and working with faculty to ensure contract provisions are met.
  • Has advanced knowledge of research-based practices that improve student outcomes and teaching excellence.
  • Has an advanced ability to utilize the college's technology systems to execute personnel, fiscal, and scheduling processes.
  • Has an advanced ability to gather, report, and analyze data to make informed decisions within the assigned units and to significantly contribute to the strategic planning and development of support mechanisms for the college's faculty, staff, and students and resource allocation.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management principles and ability to support college personnel with meeting and exceeding project deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information, protect the assets of the institution, act ethically and with integrity, and adhere to FMU’s Code of Conduct and policies and procedures.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Manage, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks/projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Qualifications:
  • The position requires a master’s degree, but a doctorate degree is strongly preferred.
  • 7-10 years experience working in Academic Leadership at an institution of higher education with exposure to a research environment in a university context.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, LinkedIn Learning and knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Familiar with Jenzabar technology suite or similar student information system for higher education.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Pre-Employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
