Job Summary/Basic Function
To further enhance our academic profile, Central State University seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the Honors Program Manager. The purpose of this position is to assist the Executive Director of the Honors College in all administrative duties included in the operation of the Honors College, and serve as a coordinator of major University-wide events such as the Academic Honors Convocation, honors orientations, honors recruitment events, conferences, symposia, and other co-curricular and extracurricular events. The Program Manager will also be responsible for coordinating efforts with the honors academic advisor, coaching the Honda All-Stars Team, developing a Student Honors Association and advising other honors societies.
The Honors Program Manager reports directly to the Executive Director of the Honors College, assumes responsibility for the general operation of the Honors College in the absence of the Executive Director, and works collaboratively with the faculty, administration, staff, and governing bodies of the University.
Position Description
• Lead extra-curricular programming, including academic, cultural, social, and service activities, honors field trips, and fall/spring honors orientations
• Work with CSU’s commencement committee to plan, coordinate and make Academic Honors Convocation and honors marshals an integral part of commencement activities
• Coordinate and lead the Academic Honors Convocation
• Assist with student research and activities conferences
• Assist with the Pre-Law and Pre-Med Symposia
• Assist with the Graduate and Professional School Symposium
• Assist the Executive Director in working with Admissions, the Registrar, and the enrollment team to develop procedures for tracking and recruiting prospective students
• Assist the Executive Director in developing recruitment strategies
• Serve on scholarship committees
• Coach the CSU Honda All-Stars Team
• Assist the honors staff in developing a pre-honors program.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree preferred
• Experience working with honors students and a demonstrated commitment to the Honors College as evidenced in participation in Honors College work, committees, events or activities
• Experience with organizing and leading project and/or special event management
• Ability to work with and mentor college students to aid them in their development
• Ability to work with students, parents, faculty, administrators and other constituency groups in a professional and helpful manner
• Ability to work independently and possession of outstanding decision-making skills
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to maintain organized and ensure efficient operations
• Strong interpersonal skills (an optimistic, positive, caring attitude)
• Ability to learn various computer applications, particularly those that are relevant to University operations
• Demonstrated record of commitment to service
