Position Title Assistant Professor – Fire Technology/Coordinator FLSA Exempt Contract Length 12 months Class Summary
Responsible for providing instruction within the appropriate department/program. Develop and revise curriculum and course work. Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation. Serves on College committees as needed and assigned. Participate in student orientated instructional and advisement activities as needed and assigned. At least three years non-teaching related work experience in the Fire Service at the rank of Captain or higher required.

A.A.S. in Fire technology or related field Preferred Education/Training/Experience
-Five years as an Instructor in the Fire Protection career field and/or 3 years working in Fire Protection Training (Fire Department Training Division or a Fire Service Academy).

-Bachelors or higher in Fire technology or related field.

TCFP or IFSAC Fire Officer III

TCFP or IFSAC Fire Officer IV

An associate degree in a related field and at least 3 years of administrative experience or office support experience. Minimum Knowledge & Skills
- Experience with teaching or training delivery

- Fire Service related knowledge and experience

- Knowledge of material being taught in the various courses of instruction offered

- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to the interactions with students, coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive workplace direction

- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills

- Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.

-Principles, best practices, and trends in fire training and management.

-Supervisory principles, practices, and methods.

-Certification standards.

- TCFP and SFFMA accreditation standards and practices

Preferred Knowledge & Skills
- Trends in fire science, fire training and fire academies

-Experience leading/growing and maintaining fire academy.

-Experience with building or leading dual credit fire academy.

Job Duties
- Instruct and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations

- Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence

- Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral

- Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution

- Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources

- Assess students’ performance through a range of measurement activities and keeps them informed of their progress in a timely manner

- Utilize technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others

- Assesses Instructors and develop faculty

- Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.

- Build positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the Fire Service community.

- Submit timely class reports and grades to Texas Commission of Fire Protection SFFMA and other bodies

- Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.

- Adhere to the College of the Mainland’s policies and procedures.

- Attend departmental meetings as required for the position.

- Overall responsibility for the operation and management of fire instruction including scheduling, staffing and admissions, graduation ceremonies, and compliance with and reporting of certification requirements

- Ensures the effectiveness of all course offerings, activities and services and their responsiveness to the needs of culturally diverse communities

- Recommends and implements policies and regulations for the program, ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, maintains related records and submits related reports

-Supervises and coordinates College of the Mainland’s Fire Technology program presentations when requested by high schools and other regional education partners

-Performs as Leader of the Basic Fire Academy and supervises/hires/schedules all academy faculty and staff

-Coordinates, schedules and conducts In-Service Agreement site visitations as assigned

-Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by Dean of Workforce or Chair of Public Service Careers Department

-Keeps records of equipment

-Schedules equipment maintenance

-Schedules fleet maintenance

-Create/schedule and teach Continuing Education courses that meet community and industry needs Licensing/Certification Requirements
- TCFP Advanced or Master Firefighter or IFSAC equivalent
and
- TCFP or IFSAC equivalent Incident Safety Officer certification

Physical Requirements
Position in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
