The University of Houston College of Medicine (UHCOM) is recruiting for an Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Admissions and Outreach, to join the leadership team of Founding Dean Stephen J. Spann, M.D., M.B.A. The curriculum of this community-based medical school has a strong focus on primary care; behavioral, community and population health; high value healthcare; social determinants of health; and partnering with communities with major health disparities to improve health and healthcare; and is taught utilizing best practices in medical education. The first class of students was admitted in July 2020.
As a member of the College of Medicine leadership team, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Admissions and Outreach is responsible for the overall development and operation of student affairs, student services, admissions, and student outreach relevant to the university’s mission and responsive to the needs of the state. The Associate Dean has delegated responsibility for oversight and management of medical student affairs, admissions and outreach for the College of Medicine which includes strategic, financial, and personnel planning. In addition to an administrative assignment, successful physician candidates will also provide clinical care in a physician practice setting 20% of the time.
The Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Admissions and Outreach functions as an at-will employee under the general supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine and works in cooperation with other College of Medicine leadership and the appropriate university offices and within existing university policies, procedures, and practices.

Specific duties include the following:
Primary Responsibilities :
- Directs and oversees the Office of Student Affairs, Admissions and Outreach
- Maintains LCME accreditation standards – meeting or exceeding requirements in all appropriate areas
- Leads programs to encourage student diversity and inclusion
- Oversees pipeline programs and the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Outreach who has direct responsibility for these
- Maintains quality of student affairs, admissions and outreach programs, and leads improvement efforts
- Anticipates and responds to changes in accreditation requirements and changes in medical education methods
- Maintains and amends appropriate academic policies
- Collaborates with the Office of Medical Education to include creation of a positive and effective learning environment
- Develops and leads initiatives to ensure student wellness and educational progress
- Develops and maintains external educational partnerships
- Advises individual students
- Adheres to internal controls established for office and department
- Serves as administrative lead of the UHCOM Admissions and Learning Environment Subcommittees
- 20% of effort will be dedicated to clinical practice
- Performs related duties as required or assigned

Qualifications :
- Doctoral degree (M.D. or D.O.)
- Current medical board certification and license to practice medicine in Texas
- Minimum of five years of leadership experience in an accredited medical school
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex environment
- Demonstrated positive interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple and diverse stakeholders
- Commitment to diversity
- Track record of developing innovative programs for students in areas such as academic, personal, wellness and career counseling
