Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Students, Ethnic & Gender Center, the Director, Foster Youth Support Services (FYSS) provides individualized services to former foster youth. Services may include coordinating academic needs assessment, developing individual study plans, recognizing and addressing academic and non-academic barriers to academic success, and advising on other aspects that may affect student retention and academic success. The Director will work with a variety of underrepresented groups to ensure this student population possess the academic (e.g. study, research, preparation for graduate programs),social, emotional, and cultural skills to be successful at UCR.Required
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
6 - 10 years of related experience.
Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.
Advanced abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
Skill and competence in organizational assessment, program evaluation, strategic planning, and departmental goal setting in higher education
Advanced ability to multi-task, verbal communication, written communication and organization skills to develop original ideas to solve problems. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Advanced knowledge of the trends, characteristics and issues facing diverse student populations in particular as they relate to foster youth, low income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged and under-prepared students in higher education.
Knowledge and sensitivity of providing holistic support to the foster youth student population with a strong understanding of the resources and services available.
Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines for foster youth including current legislation related to financial options available for foster youth students
Advanced ability in developing and responsibly managing departmental resources to effectively respond to students' needs and concerns within the scope of the departmental and divisional mission.


Preferred
Master's degree
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Advanced ability to develop original ideas to solve problems
Demonstrated experience serving and supporting student parents with foster youth background.
Demonstrated experience supporting trauma survivors who are former foster youth.
