Job Description
The professional academic advisor in the ISE Department is a full-time administrative and professional faculty calendar year position that will assist undergraduate students in identifying and achieving their academic and professional goals. This position is responsible for providing academic and career advising services, maintaining student files and records, and delivering accurate information and advice to students about majors, minors, course options, study abroad, transfer credits, and extracurricular activities.
As a professional advisor, the position will provide timely one-on-one-advice to ISE undergraduate students, monitor the academic progress of students and initiate academic intervention for students in academic difficulty, support student registration, and develop departmental materials and presentations. The professional academic advisor will coordinate the ISE Ambassadors program, assist the department in meeting its goals related to student recruitment, persistence, retention, and graduation. Participation in evening/weekend activities is sometimes needed.
Required Qualifications
1. An advanced degree (master’s degree or higher) in education, counseling, higher education administration, or related field; or a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or related field, with training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.
2. Experience working in a student-focused setting (i.e. academic advising, classroom instruction, counseling, etc.).
3. Experience working with diverse student populations.
4. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
5. Experience with Microsoft Office suite of applications.
6. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience working with students and supervising, leading and/or planning student-focused activities/events in a higher educational setting.
2. Experience in and/or knowledge pertaining to university operations, policies, and procedures in areas such as registration, class scheduling, degree and graduation requirements.
3. Knowledge of Career and Professional Development practices including recruiting and placement.
4. Experience with the Banner or other student information systems.
