Job Description
The Visionarium Lab at Virginia Tech is an international leader in immersive and web virtual reality visualization who supports science, engineering, and design activities across the University – https://vis.arc.vt.edu. We have an opening for motivated candidates who want to use 3D graphics and scientific visualization to solve big problems at the cutting-edge of research. As part of the Advanced Research Computing (ARC) group – http://www.arc.vt.edu, this position will work closely with computational faculty and students and Information Technology teams to support usable and performant visualization environments.
The successful candidate will:
● Work with domain specialists to facilitate access to ARC's visual computing technologies
● Provide hardware and software support to ensure functionality and availability of visualization resources
● Grow professionally through ongoing training, certification programs, and continued learning
● Have strong communication and collaboration skills
● Enjoy variety in their work, which includes elements of customer service and interaction, hands-on equipment setup, troubleshooting, and repair
Required Qualifications
• The successful candidate must have a BS/BA in Computer Science (or a related engineering discipline).
• Demonstrated experience with Linux/Unix administration
• Demonstrated experience with Full Stack development
• Demonstrated experience with Hardware and software provisioning
• Demonstrated experience with Graphics API or visualization packages
• Experience with systems engineering and administration for high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience with 3D graphics
• Demonstrated experience with immersive Virtual Reality systems
• Demonstrated experience with software development
