The Implementation Director AACN Essentials provides academic, strategic, technical, operational, and managerial leadership for Essentials implementation aligned with the AACN mission, vision and strategic plan.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of the Essentials implementation including all activities related to academic content and project administration.
  • Serve as primary AACN staff liaison to the Essentials Implementation Steering Committee, and overall accountability for Essentials Implementation working groups.
  • Responsible for applying expert knowledge of academic nursing and clinical practice to provide immediate and longer-term complex problem-solving direction.
  • Provide strategic day-to-day decision-making, engaging internal and external stakeholders in achieving implementation goals.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with academic and practice partners related to Essentials implementation efforts, providing support in facilitating implementation activities.
  • Promote Essentials implementation through advocacy, presentations, and participation in national and regional forums as appropriate.
  • Lead bi-monthly Essentials Implementation Team Meetings to review project deliverables and accountability of project team activities.
  • Continually compile and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to drive future Essentials education programming and support communications that are responsive to member needs.
  • Provides regular reports to leadership, Board and membership.


Director Requirements and Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in nursing or related field is required with at least 10 years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Experience managing, designing, implementing, and evaluating large and complex projects.
  • Broad based academic nursing, clinical and administrative expertise and program management skills with strong preference for candidates with experience integrating academic-practice partnerships.
  • Experience with academic curriculum development and design.
  • Demonstrated management, and communication skills to liaise and advocate with thought leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to write technical reports and program documents and deliver presentations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be highly organized, strong attention to detail, and able to manage concurrent projects.
