The College of Lake County is currently searching for an Office Assistant for the Advising and Retention Department. Under the supervision of the Director of Advising and Retention, the Office Assistant serves as a receptionist to students, faculty, staff and community members while also performing general office duties and serving the needs of the academic success advisors (ASAs) and other staff who visit or contact the office. The Office Assistant must provide outstanding customer service, create a welcoming and inclusive environment, maintain confidentiality of student information and be prepared to respond to situations that may present in the office. The Office Assistant must have a clear understanding of college and department policies and procedures.

Regular Part-Time Board established positions earn Vacation and Sick Leave and Tuition waiver for CLC classes and Tuition Reimbursement for advanced degrees. In addition, employees are eligible to participate in the State University Retirement System (SURS)

Required Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  3. Strong customer service and communication skills.
  4. Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  5. Ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Desired Qualifications:
  1. Experience performing receptionist duties.
  2. Experience in an educational setting.
  3. Experience in handling and maintaining confidential information.
  4. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Summary of Essential Functions:
Student/Customer Service: 90%
  1. Greet customers via phone or in person.
  2. Answer general questions; provide basic information to students and connect them with other departments when necessary.
  3. Schedule student appointments.

Department Operations/Processes: 5%
  1. Data entry.
  2. General office duties.
Other: 5%
  1. Assists with departmental and organizational projects.
  2. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Advising and Retention.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:Ability to continuously sit and interact with the public (internal/external). Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, lift (0-50 lb.), lift (50+ lb.), carry (0-50 lbs.), carry (50+ lbs.), push (0-300 lbs.) occasionally.
