Under the general supervision of the Chief Diversity Officer, this position assists in the development, implementation, and assessment of support services and programs designed to increase retention, graduation, academic success, and career transition of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: review of disability-related documentation, consultation with individual students to assess eligibility for accommodation, determination and implementation of reasonable accommodations; serve as a consultant and resource to students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding accommodations, disability services, campus accessibility, policies and procedures; meet individually with students for academic, career, and personal counseling; serve as an advocate and liaison between students and campus departments; provide training on disability related issues to faculty and staff; collaborate with area high schools and community agencies to assist students with disabilities in the transition to college; and maintain current information regarding federal and state laws, the provision of reasonable accommodations as well as best practices in the field.





REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master's degree in Higher Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Special Education, Social Work, or a related field. A minimum of 1 year of experience providing disability services for college students.  Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to persons with disabilities, particularly the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 required. Specialized understanding of the effects of disabilities on the vocational, psychosocial, and academic development of students is also required. Experience reading and interpreting disability related documentation and determining the appropriate accommodations for a broad range of learning, physical, chronic health and psychological disabilities required.  The successful candidate must possess the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment with a diverse population of students; and excellent interpersonal skills as well as effective oral and written communication skills also required. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   A minimum of 1 year of experience providing disability services for college students in a community college setting is strongly preferred.
