Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Summer Ventures Residential Life Director is responsible for overseeing safety and behavior of teens in residential setting. Conducts recreation activities for individual and group participation. ensures students adhere to academic schedule. As a guide, minimum education and experience include graduation from high school and prior experience leading recreation activities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Must be available to work Sunday, June 26 through Saturday, July 23, 2022
Must be prepared to reside on main campus in dorm setting and be on-call overnight and weekends for emergencies
Must be willing and able to supervise, encourage and discipline staff
Must be willing and able to implement and follow all SVSM program rules and policies, including those related to student cell phones
Must be willing and able to manage conflicts involving staff, parents and/or students Housing & residence life experience Supervisory experience, especially involving children or young adults Minimum requirement of two years towards an associates or bachelor’s degree
Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff Must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities
Must have desire and experience working with youth
Must demonstrate qualities of maturity, patience, and responsibility
Must be at least 21 years old and qualified to drive program vans (NC driver’s license; at least 21 years old; no tickets within last 4 years)
Employment is subject to a criminal background check

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Completion of a Bachelors or Masters degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education, STEM area, education, or related field

Experience as Residential Life Director or Coordinator

Training in conflict resolution and/or team dynamics

Required Certifications or Licensure

CPR Certification (certification must be obtained by June 10, 2022)

First Aid Certification (certification must be obtained by June 10, 2022)

Valid driver’s license

Must be at least 21 years old

Work Hours

General schedule Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 8:30am and 3:00pm -11:00pm (on-call overnight), One 2 hour lunch meeting/week to engage all program staff

Work Days

Sunday - Saturday

Hours Per Week

45 hours per week for M-F (unless some duties had to also be performed while on call) and up to an additional 28 hours overtime for Saturday & Sunday.

$15 - $17/hour

Special Instructions to Applicants

Please note: this is a temporary position. “On call” means that you will not earn work hours unless you are called to duty. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines. Pay varies by position and is based on qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional compensation includes housing and some meals when working.
