The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication is looking for a highly organized, proactive and professional Assistant to the Dean. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining trusted working relationships with faculty, staff, students and colleagues across the university. The position coordinates and works with materials that are sensitive and confidential in nature. Additional duties include providing assistance to students, faculty and staff when various issues arise.

02Essential Duties
This position will have a number of sensitive, confidential and complex tasks which include:
- Scheduling meetings between the Dean and his constituents and ensuring daily schedule of meetings is on track
- Managing travel arrangements and processing expenses for the Dean
- Acting on behalf of the Dean in the implementation of plans, policies and procedures
- Managing the Dean’s time to increase his effectiveness, including making judgments as to priorities and/or delegating tasks to the appropriate leader
- Providing support for search and hiring processes for faculty, academic professionals
- Providing support for faculty and academic personnel processes and procedures
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing
- Fostering good working relationships with students, faculty and educational partners
- Serving as the point of contact for the school and with university administrators
- Managing multiple high priority tasks
- Exercising sound judgment in decision making, including ability to anticipate, recognize and resolve internal and/or constituent issues
- Composing correspondence involving judgment for non-routine, significant inquires and problems
- Assembling agenda items for faculty/staff meetings and maintaining meeting minutes
- Supervising assigned staff and student workers to ensure a professional and positive work environment
- Serving as facilitator in coordinating projects and events
- Performing special assignments as directed by the Dean
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., to include some nights and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, education or related field and four (4) years of related work experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Computer software, including Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google suite applicATIONS (i.e., docs, sheets, drive, etc) or its equivalent
- Team collaboration and/or project management applications such as Slack, trello or monday.com.
Working Environment
Our office is located at 555 North Central Avenue, Phoenix.
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts

This position is based in one of them: the Phoenix Sports Bureau of Cronkite News.
