Centenary College of Louisiana invites applicants for a one-year visiting Assistant Professor position in Art History, beginning August 2022. We seek candidates who can demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship, who understand the nature of teaching in a small liberal arts setting, who excel at conveying their passion for visual culture, and who would contribute to Centenary's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Candidates should be prepared to teach a 3-3 load across the Art & Visual Culture curriculum, including introductory survey courses, upper-level art history courses, and related arts management and museum studies courses. Specific courses needed include Public Art and Design History. Candidates committed to a contemporary and global approach to art history and whose range of interests and teaching extend across historical periods are encouraged to apply. We invite applicants interested in supporting and collaborating with our thriving contemporary studio art program.

Strong candidates will demonstrate a commitment to innovative teaching, curation, and art historical scholarship. Opportunities exist to integrate teaching and research with Centenary’s Meadows Museum of Art, an American Alliance of Museums accredited institution. Candidates should have earned a relevant masters or doctorate by August 2022 and must be legally able to work in the U.S.

Centenary offers an undergraduate liberal arts environment where faculty members work closely with students both in and out of the classroom, participate in interdisciplinary curricular and co-curricular pursuits, and enjoy the support of faculty and staff colleagues from across the College.

Centenary College recognizes that diversity is essential to its goal of providing an educational environment where students explore the unfamiliar, invent new approaches to understanding, and connect their work and lives to the world at large. We thus welcome applicants who would add to the College’s diversity of ideas, beliefs, experiences, and cultural backgrounds. www.centenary.edu EOE.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, copies of unofficial transcripts from all institutions of higher learning, a teaching philosophy, a diversity, equity, and inclusion statement, and three letters of recommendation.
