POSITION DETAILS

Kingsborough Community College was founded in 1963 and is one of 23 campuses of the City University of New York (CUNY) system and offers liberal arts education, as well as career training programs. Kingsborough has been named one of the leading community colleges in the country by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program.  It has also earned national recognition for its creative and effective use of learning communities, for the large number of degrees it confers, for the high percentage of graduates who continue their studies, and for the innovative programs that draw thousands of non-traditional students to its campus every year. 

Kingsborough serves a widely diverse population. Approximately 70% of Kingsborough’s students are enrolled in a liberal arts or science degree program; the rest pursue degrees in more specialized, career-oriented programs such as business, communications, criminal justice, culinary arts, nursing and allied health careers, information technology, journalism, maritime technology, tourism and hospitality, and the visual arts. Reporting to the Dean of Student Success Programs, Student Success Technology Manager is responsible for working with multiple constituencies to develop, implement and train faculty and staff on technological solutions to improve student success outcomes and business practices. The position requires demonstrated project management skills, strong technology background, analytical and problems solving skills, and the ability to work with all constituencies across the college. An understanding of, and familiarity with, student support processes and technology’s role in supporting efforts is central to this role. The incumbent will manage the College’s existent student success platforms, currently including Starfish, and research and implement new technologies to drive student success through engagement and measurement with direction from College wide leadership and teams.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Student Success Technology Manager duties will include but not be limited to the following:

• Develop business practices, polices, and procedures for faculty and staff on the use of robust student success systems.
• Apply project management processes to ensure successful project implementation that is on time and within budget; program deliverables are met, and activities completed.
• Administer and manage the daily operations of the student success technology platform (currently Starfish), including routine support and troubleshooting for faculty and staff, management of user roles and privileges, platform configuration and workflow customization, system status monitoring and data reporting; Review all tracking items to ensure that each student gets directed to the appropriate campus service for follow up.
• Organize and facilitate meetings, conferences, and communications between involved systems and partners.
• Provide data reports across student support areas in actionable formats as needed to enable data driven decision making.
• Develop new innovative opportunities within the system to support persistence and completion.
• Collaborate and consult with college faculty and staff to further embed early alert functionality into their daily work processes.
• Work with vendors to research issues, test the functionality of the system, and plan for platform updates and release of new features.
• Assist with development of training and training materials.
• Use data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence and report out the data to college audiences.
• Serve as part of the Student Success Team to provide technology-based solutions to programmatic and process challenges.
• Research, recommend, and support implementation of new technologies to drive student success.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

Preferred candidate will possess:

• High level of technological expertise and motivation to keep up with new technologies
• Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, and be flexible with changing priorities
• Understanding, and preferably experience, with Project Management cycles
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally to non-technical and technical audiences
• Demonstrated experience with early warning and advisement systems such as Starfish, Navigate, Advisor/TutorTrac
• Familiarity with Admissions systems such as Connect
• Experience implementing multiuser systems and training staff in using them
• Strong organization, project management, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with institutions of higher education, and especially student support processes, strongly desired
• Knowledge of CUNYFirst (PeopleSoft) desirable

Essential Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite; database management software, SIS and LMS system knowledge; SQL experience; Ability to skillfully maintain and update data in Access and Excel and run reports on a regular basis.

- Serves as project manager and designer for the evaluation and implementation of new instructional technologies
