Position Summary 

The Operations Coordinator provides oversight and management of OP’s equipment inventory and storage facilities including both the Outdoor Center and the OP Ski & Bike Shop.  Responsibilities also include the procurement of trip food and related equipment; the management and training of student staff; as well as, creating and improving all logistics procedures and policies.  Additionally, the Operations Coordinator oversees OP’s student outdoor leadership program (SOL) as well as, Peak Experiences (a pre-college trip program for incoming students).       

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of demonstrated working/life experience in related outdoor programming.  
  • Outdoor skills and experiences with the ability to instruct in at least four of the following activities:  Rafting, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Hiking/Backpacking, Backcountry Skiing/Boarding, Rock/Ice Climbing, Mountaineering, Wilderness Medicine, Avalanche Education.  This experience should be in environments that are similar to those found in the Four-Corners region (i.e. mountains, high desert, canyons, and whitewater rivers).  
  • Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate programs and trainings common to outdoor skill activities and outdoor leadership.  
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the Microsoft Office Suite.  

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated work experience with a college/university outdoor program, commercial guide or outfitters, or work with the National Outdoor Leadership School, Outward Bound, or similar.  
  • Demonstrated experience with the purchase and procurement of outdoor equipment.  
  • Demonstrated experience with the repair and maintenance of outdoor equipment including ski/board tuning, bike repair, and sewing skills.  
  • Knowledge of the outdoor recreational opportunities in the Four-Corners Region.  
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching Leave-No-Trace ethics.  
  • Retail and/or rental operational experience.  
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.  
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills including listening, speaking, and writing.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators at all levels.  

 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the OP equipment inventory   
  • Provide supervision and management of the outdoor center student staff and the Ski & Bike shop staff, as well as assist in the management of the OP internship position.  
  • Assist with the operational logistics of OP trips and the equipment use program   
  • Responsible for the procurement, inventory, repair, and maintenance of OP equipment.   
  • Maintain bulk food and consumable supplies (i.e.: stove fuel)   
  • Oversee the purchase of food for trips.   
  • Check equipment out/in from trips   
  • Prepare all trip related administrative paperwork  
  • Maintain and resupply first aid kits and repair.  
  • Assist with vehicle shuttles for trips and on occasion be available for field evacuations  
  • Manage professional ordering and vendor relationships for OP   
  • Maintain logistics facilities. (i.e.: OP equipment storage areas, river lockers, food room, etc.)   

  

  • Responsible for the OP repair area and assist students in repairing and maintaining their own equipment.  
  • Oversee OP resource library including the purchase of books, periodicals, magazines and other multi-media materials.  
  • Manage OP’s Student Outdoor Leadership (SOL) program including the recruitment and training of all student leaders, as well as the logistical organization of all SOL led trips and activities.  
  • Coordinate OP’s pre-college trip program (Peak Experiences)  
  • Work with the FLC media department to develop all program marketing materials including website maintenance.  
  • Manage the overall operational logistics of the program including procurement of all trip food and related equipment.  
  • Organize vehicle shuttles including group drop-offs and pick-ups.  
  • Prepare and oversee the program’s risk management policies and procedures.  
  • Manage OP’s Student Outdoor Leadership (SOL) program including the recruitment and training of all student leaders.  
  • Maintain, at a minimum, current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications.  
  • Driving record that qualifies for State of Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (Class B and P2 endorsements).  
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.  
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.  
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Significant work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of 1-2 weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.    

   

Individuals should be able to work alone or with people; during day/night/weekend/holiday hours.   

Compensation  

The salary range for this position is 45,000 to 47,000,  plus a comprehensive benefits package.
