Job Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Academic Engagement and Student Affairs, the Director of Student Engagement is responsible for administration, implementation, and promotion of student development programs designed to foster student engagement and leadership and support student retention. Oversight and leadership of First- and Second-Year Experience, Student Involvement, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Commuter and Transfer Programs, and other retention initiatives and programs. Responsible for strategic planning, implementing and assessing programs and activities designed to promote academic success, retention and persistence of UWF students. Oversee the planning, budgeting, promotion, and risk management of programs and services including but not limited to: Academic Foundations Seminar, ArgoFirst Living Community, Grit Pathway Program, Registered Student Organizations, Leadership and Service programs, Student Activities, Homecoming, and Fraternity and Sorority Life. Provides leadership to the Argo Arrival/Welcome Week program, including New Student Convocation. Formulate and recommend policies and procedures necessary for the efficient administration of programs and services. Collaborate with student leaders, Student Government Association, DAESA programs, academic departments, and in the community to enhance student life, activities, and positive student engagement.

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in College Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related specialization from an accredited institution and six years of directly related professional experience in college student affairs or in higher education; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of directly related professional experience in college student affairs or higher education.

Ability to:

  • Set a strategically focused vision and direction, and tactical objectives for the various programs/functions within the scope of the Student Engagement, apply University policies and State of Florida statutes relevant to contracts, procurement, travel, insurance, etc., direct assessment projects and develop appropriate student learning/program outcomes and effective outcome measures/assessments.

Knowledge of the following areas:

  • Business management, budget/finance, employee supervision, employee evaluation processes, and customer service, student life issues, trends, and theories, sorority and fraternity life trends and issues,
  • Student activity programming, student organizations, and student involvement initiatives,
  • applicable contract procedures and processes, leadership development and training principles,
  • principles and practices related to student conduct and crisis response and risk management,
  • leadership development and training principles, inclusive excellence.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in College Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related specialization from an accredited institution and six years of directly related professional experience in college student affairs or in higher education; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of directly related professional experience in college student affairs or higher education.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.
