The Assistant Dean for Admissions, Diversity, Inclusion and Strategic Initiatives is a senior administrative position within the Law School that oversees all aspects of admissions and recruitment while ensuring the University’s values are well-reflected. This position will manage J.D., M.S.L., and transfer admissions, lead a staff of admission professionals, and plan and execute strategic goals to admit and enroll academically superior and diverse candidates in coordination with the Dean of the School of Law.

The Assistant Dean is vital in stewarding the School of Law given the content of its incoming class has lasting effects on its history. Scholarship offerings and applicant qualifications shape every aspect of the Law School from development opportunities, career placement for graduates, national rankings, and reputation standing to name a few.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • 3 years of legal education enrollment management and admissions experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Ability to engage in the recruiting process by planning, coordinating, and overseeing promotional events, campus tours, student interviews, and other admissions activities.
  • Expert relationship-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to build a culture of trust and develop effective teams.
  • Ability to recognize and incorporate admissions software data metrics into Admissions department decisions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Leadership, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and oversee the selection process of incoming students.
  • Ability to prioritize duties and achieve planned goals for a complex program.
  • Ability to interact professionally and positively with individuals and constituencies from a variety of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to represent the Law School at different recruiting events regionally and nationally (15% travel)

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Dean oversees the development and implementation of admissions policies for all two-degree programs. Responsibilities include all facets of the admissions life cycle and ensuring compliance with admissions standards required by accrediting bodies. (25%)
  • As the Director of Diversity Programs, this position will work to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds are recruited and welcomed by the Law School, serve as the administrator of the Summer Academic Success Program, and work with current students and alumni on diversity matters. The Assistant Dean is the main steward of the Benham Scholars program. (25%)
  • The Assistant Dean is responsible for the timely review of files and decisions on admission and residency. (15%)
  • The Assistant Dean works with the Dean and Admissions Committee to develop strategic goals to admit and enroll academically superior and diverse entering classes. This includes the implementation and maintenance of admissions software to support strategic goals, maximize scholarship offerings, and ensure compliance with state and federal financial aid regulations and requirements. (15%)
  • This position will supervise and manage the School of Law Admissions office, providing leadership and direction to the staff members regarding admission, scholarship, and diversity initiatives.(10%)
  • The Executive Director develops sound and effective marketing and recruitment strategies and assists in the recruitment of prospective students. (5%)
  • The Assistant Dean is responsible for the fiscal operations of the department including the development of the department budget, compliance with university policies and procedures, and exercising budgeting and expenditure control authority. (5%)
